Any polite planning for taking visit nearest and dearest around Northern Virginia?
My parents are flying in from CT this Thursday and I'm strange to the areas and would like to clutch them around to different places. We also have 3 kids too so it must be kid friendly.Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!!

Not real sure exactly where on earth you are at but there are alot of things to call round not to mention all the different winerys. There's Waltons Mountain Musem, montecello, jamestown, Bush Gardens, Va Beach, crabtree falls, humpback rock, skyline drive.. Va have alot of cool things trust me I've lived here all my energy

Depends on the area. I live in the vicinity Leesburg so I've taken some of my family on Route 15 towards Maryland and stop by the Ball's Bluff theatre of war site and then preserve going until we hit the Potomac. It takes me usually around 1 1/2 to 2 hours to do. I'm not sure where on earth you are but driving through the countryside is always nice contained by the summer.

You don't say-so where surrounded by Northern Virginia you are - and you don't say how infirm the kids are. Your message suggests you want to stay in Northern Virginia - not stir into DC. While I think that might be a mistake - DC have so much to offer, I'll answer the Northern Virginia quiz. If you are open to going into DC - tolerate me know and I'll edit this answer to include that.
Kid friendly Nothern Virginia stuff:
If your kid is into history, afterwards some great stuff includes:
Manassas National Battlefield outside Manasses (real close to the NVCC area there). The guns and the short volunteer lead tour about the first conflict of Manassas would be great for kids. If the kids are young, skip the movie - it is in reality quite graphically bloody, and the museum can be a bit boring, but the walk around the battlefield can be great. There's a driving tour for the second warfare of Manassas - which is good singular if your kids are really into Civil War Stuff.
Mount Vernon. The tour of the house is OK for kids, good for kids next to an interest in history. The "cooling chair" is natty, as is the rest of the library. But the real interest for kids is contained by the outbuildings, where slaves worked and the close to. And there is lots of room to run around if they are little. The museum and visitor's center have some neat stuff too, but hold them out of the souvenir shop - lots of neat stuff!
Gunston Hall - close to Mount Vernon but smaller, and a little smaller amount prissy. Learning about George Mason is quality of cool, and the exhibits are very approachable for younger folks.
If your kids are not into history, here are some concept:
Air and Space Museum's Udvar-Hazy Center. This is a kid's delight, and the folks building it know it. There are a lot of great cool airplanes, some interactive exhibits, cool space stuff. And if you want you can turn up in the close watch tower and watch planes purloin off at Dulles Airport. Right to hand Dulles.
Great Falls park - one of the best natural wonders of Northern Virginia, the Great Falls of the Potomac boasts fantastic view, lots of space to have a correct time and picnic areas. In addition you can see what it be like when it be a great resort destination, and visit the ruins and the character trail on the way.
Colvin Mill - working Mill past its sell-by date Rte 7 on the way to Leesburg from Tyson's Corner. See how flour is ground, and keep watch on the paddlewheel go.

1. Cub Run Recreation Center out in Chantilly VA is great & hottest Fairfax County indoor sports facility with indoor pool and two tubes
2 Splash Down Waterpark at Ben Lomond Park within Manassas VA is also another kid favorite
3. If you drive or Metrorail into DC, 2 out of town favorites which requre advance free tickets are the Bureau of Printing and Engraving (can buy shredded currency and sheets of uncut US currency) and the Holocaust Museum.
4. Smithsonian Air & Space Annex rotten of Route 28
You have to clutch them downtown. The museums are wonderful for all ages, and they are FREE. Mount Vernon. There is teh Udvar-Hazy museum at Dulles Airport. You foot to park, but the museum is free. Olde Towne Alexandria is good for adults, may bore the kids. Great Falls park.
