seriously, watch the movie Shop Girl and you'll know that City Walk is resembling THE place to see a movie (Universal City).
Then there are some other great places - toi thai food on sunset blvd for the atmosphere and however the romantic vibe.

A little more information would own been handy... budget, where on earth you live, etc. Mrs. Obviousman and I go out on date all the time... to Disneyland. But if you don't live contained by the OC, that makes it a bit difficult. So, here's a short chronicle of romantic places:
Romance is where you gross it. Anything can be romantic, if done right. However, if you want to create a special moment with a landscape, then the hill or the beach are where on earth you want to start.
Mulholland Drive is beautiful, but might be a bit dicey if you are shooting for a romantic moment. There are lots of kids up in that, parking, driving fast, etc. I would dislike intensely for one of them to ruin the moment.
Griffith Observatory. Excellent views of LA, smooth to get to. However, a recent fire have closed some of the trails in the park.
Catalina is muy romantico. Dance to Big Bands at Catalina Casino Ballroom & Theatre. Dress up and return to the glamorous big decoration days for a special night surrounded by the Casino Ballroom where art deco murals and Tiffany chandeliers cover the 12-story icon.
