where is the best shopping precinct or place to shop in DC

I resembling to go to the Friendship Heights metro stop on the red stripe. There are a lot of shops within the area surrounding the metro - everything from Filene's Basement to Coach.
Georgetown is also devout, pretty much anything you want will be there. It get pretty crowded on the weekends, so if that's when you're going, you might not want to drive there. You can go and get there efficiently via the Circulator bus.
I only walk to Pentagon City if I have to. It's your big, typical suburban shopping precinct, and is usually packed near kids on school trips. I don't know why they filch them to the mall, since it's exactly similar to every mall everywhere else.
It depends on your taste.
If you have a commonplace person essence: Tysons Corner-- two malls that are both HUGE! (definately shopping heaven).
If you want more designer-ish boutiques...
go to Georgetown. I believe they enjoy a Lacoste and an Armani and a few others, but I haven't been in attendance in a while and I'm not totally sure.
They also hold this really killer cake place that be on Oprah :]
It depends on how much you want to spend. If you want to shop high appendage stuff, you have to shift to Tysons Galleria. They have Gucci, Nicole Miller, etc.
Median priced malls include Tysons Corner (my favoriate), Pentagon City Mall, Shops at Georgetown, Montgomery Mall and Fair Oaks Mall.
If you want bargain, you can go to the outlet malls resembling Potomac Mills Mall, Arundel Mills Mall, Leesburg Prime Outlets, or the Queenstown Prime Outlets (this one is farther away).
If outlets are not your thing, they enjoy 4 Filenes Basement in the DC nouns.
If you feel resembling getting mugged or shot at, you go to Landmark Mall or Springfield Mall.
Depends on what you close to - Malls are mostly out in the suburbs, but here are some thinking:
Union Station - this has be made into a Mall, and it is very interesting. No anchor store (that's typical for within the District). About 70 shops, much dining, and within walking distance of the Mall (that is the big grassy space between the Capitol and Lincoln Memorial)
Georgetown - I regard as a lot of inhabitants consider this the best place to shop in DC. Georgetown Park is a voluminous urban Mall, and the streets around it, particularly M street and Wisconsin avenue are teeming next to trendy little shops, and the like. If you are young at heart and have some money (or even don't hold much money - H & M is there, too) it's the place to budge.
Pentagon City - Outside DC is Virginia (Blue or Yellow Line to Pentagon city Station) this is one of the Newer Malls, and accessible from DC via Metro. It's considered really great - it's a more typical mall, but exceedingly upscale.
Ballston - a smaller, more family friendly shopping arcade on the Orange Line metro at Ballston. I like Ballston because of the inspection of shops there. It also seem less expensive.
Tyson's Corner. You have need of to drive, or take the metro to Dunn Loring next catch a bus to catch to Tyson's. But it is very sizeable, one of the half dozen or so largest malls within the country. There are actually two malls at Tyson's and lots of shopping surrounded by strip malls and centers in the streets around (123 and Rte 7)
Potomac Mills Mall surrounded by Dale City - Huge discount Mall off 95 South. You must own a car to receive here, but if you're looking for seconds, this is the place.
White Flint Mall - In Maryland, massively upscale very nice - I expect accessible by Metro (though I've never taken Metro there).

Georgetown (trust me)!!
In DC, I suggest the Shops at Georgetown Park (http://www.shopsatgeorgetownpark.com/htm... It's a considerable mall, but nearby are lots of other shops too right around there. The closest metro stop is Foggy Bottom, but if you own a car they own a parking garage.
Not sure about any other malls surrounded by DC, but there are other places only just outside of the district too. Tysons Corner Center and Tysons Galleria are also very popular (http://www.shoptysons.com/).
For another experience you could go before to Prince William, VA, and check out Potomac Mills Mall (http://www.potomacmills.com). It's a huge mall full of outlet stores (lots of hotchpotch, and good bargains).

Georgetown's a really popular place to shift
so is Tyson's Corner though you can find a lot of great deal at Georgetown (example: I got an Overnight Puma backpack originally priced at $50, for $20)
Pentagon City Mall's another place to check out...I got a $15 designer rucksack...not a famous brand, but really nice
