New York City Apartments?

Are they any decent New York City apartments that arent too expensive? I am planning on moving here in a few years near a friend to persue our careers, so we would be splitting the cost, so we wont enjoy loads of money. But my question is, at hand are places in New York City that arent overly priced at adjectives but pretty decent right?

Answers:
Outside of Manhattan definitely.

There are lots parts of Queens that are nice areas and relatively affordable. Astoria is perfect since it is close mass transit to Manhattan and the rents are about 30% smaller amount than what you would be paying for Manhattan.
it depends, but my guess is for the both of you a two bedroom apt will be what you are looking for.
some prices for 2br right immediately are as follows:
(averages)
4000 (a) Battery Park City
3800 (a) Central Village
2300 (a) East Village
5000 (a) Financial district

for more precise info you can check this no fee apts explore site: http://www.nybits.com/search/

Few years from now on is relatively a long run period; prices and rules may revision by then; it also really depends on where on earth your job will be and what money of transportation you are going to use.
you should patently check out Sunnyside, Queens. oftentimes it takes smaller amount time to get into Manhattan from in that than within Manhattan itself. the #7 train take you right into Midtown, and you can change trains along the opening to go anywhere else you want to shift.

Sunnyside has great, elder, low rise, well built apartment buildings next to good amounts of room and apt rental prices. right now studios are surrounded by the $900-1200 range, and 1-bedrooms start contained by the low $1000s. larger apartments are a bit more, of course.

i myself live on the UWS within Manhattan, but because of a change surrounded by life situation, i expect to be moving to an nouns like Sunnyside in a year or so...

(BTW, Tony S's suggestion of Astoria is also an excellent one. just substitute "Astoria" for "Sunnyside" surrounded by Craigslist and take a look!)
My friend, forget Manhattan. Consider living outside of Manahttan. Rents surrounded by Manhattan are a nightmare, and it even getting worst.

Good luck

In Manhattan the only areas you might find both affordable and adjectives would be Inwood at the northern tip of the island and Morningside Heights, which is a college type area.
In the Bronx, check out Parkchester or conceivably Kingsbridge.
In Brooklyn, Flatbush, Marine Park, or Sheepshead Bay. Flatbush has elder buildings and an interesting ethnic mix, and the shorter ride to Manhattan.
In Queens, any community along the route of the #7 IRT, such as Astoria, Corona, or Flushing. Also, Yellowstone is nice.
On Staten Island, there are few apartments for rent, but the choices for you would sprawl along Victory Boulevard or on Grymes Hill.
Info on apartments can be found in the NY Times (mainly but not exclusively Manhattan), Newsday (mainly Queens), silive.com (Staten Island), and to a slight extent, the NY Daily News. Plus at hand is always Craigslist.
