What's worth seeing within Marin County, North of San Francisco..?

I want to go on a daytime trip (by car) there...

Also, where's a flawless place to get lunch in that?

Answers:
Muir Woods
Sausalito (the downtown waterfront area)
Golden Gate Park (great cliffs overlooking the ocean)
old forts within Golden Gate Park
walk the Golden Gate Bridge

lunch surrounded by sausalito

EDIT: 'it's that guy'--oops--i meant 'golden take nat'l rec area', not 'golden gate park'.
Becky mentioned 'Golden Gate Park'. I think she designed Marin Headlands, the southern end of Marin. There is a road beside magnificent view of the bridge and the city, some cool old gun emplacements, and a lighthouse to be exact very interesting (with more views).

If it be me, I'd drive up along the coast (someone else mentioned that). It's a beautiful drive, and you touch like you're a million miles from nowhere. Stop contained by Point Reyes Station for lunch, there are a few cute little restaurants near. Muir Woods is along this road, and very worth seeing if you approaching that kind of entry, also Stinson Beach is a very nice sand if you like beach. I go up that agency on my motorcycle at least a few times per season.

From Point Reyes Station you can come inland towards Petaluma. Downtown Petaluma is hugely nice, many hoary buildings (from the 1870s-1880s) that have be made into a nice shopping district. And from there you can bring 101 back.
Stay away from Sausalito, it's boring. Also, Napa and Sonoma are, um, different counties, and thus not Marin.

Driving up Highway 1 has tons of great things. The headland are great... if you start hiking at Muir Beach the paths are prettier and smaller amount crowded. Muir Beach itself is great... probably my favorite beach contained by the Bay Area (though I prefer it when the weather's crappy so no one's there... har har). It also have this great lagoon that's usually reasonably thaw out, so you can actually jump into the water short wanting to/thinking you will die. The roads between Tam Junction and Stinson are wonderful... twisty and turny with cliffs to tip out off if you crease. It's a bit of a rush, and really pretty. Certain turn-outs that you can park at and hike down the cliffs at in no doubt spots to find tiny/desolate beaches that are really great. Stinson itself have its charm, but it's gotten annoying and uptight. I used to love it, but now of late go right historic it without stopping (they don't even allow dogs anymore... wtf? When I be a kid everyone who lived there have a dog who had free roam of the beach). The drive up North is great... a bird sanctuary between Stinson and Bolinas. In the swamp nouns to the West you can see all sorts of animals (basically, if an animal lives contained by the area, you'll promising see them there). Bolinas is great. A small quasi hippie town, though I guess it's gotten less hippie and more crunchy, and yappy small dogs beside Napoleon Complexes have be introduced to the environment (leaving baffled faces on adjectives the older/chill dogs who've lived there/visited there for years contained by peace). The beach here is really nice... interesting tide patterns, and have cool graffiti on the concrete wall. Some really great restaurants along the main street. Never remember what any of them are call, though. Basically, if people are sitting outside and consumption, it's probably really good. Really cute town. Driving further North is a gorgeous drive... smaller number treacherous roads through forest, and occasional farm estate with freakishly friendly cows (they'll in reality come up to the fence to greet you). Lots of cute small towns (ranging from tiny to typical small town)... Woodville, Olema, etc... (which also hold great restaurants - people are moneyed there, and usually foodies, so crap isn't really on the food radar). Point Reyes Station itself is really great, too. Obviously adjectives of the Point Reyes Forest/Seashore is there, too.

Less interesting, but... I truly like Mill Valley, too. It's boring and kinda blah, but strangely comfortable. Some accurate cafes, the best Chinese restaurant ever (in the downtown square nouns... forget what it's called, but on Miller Ave), etc... A really great register store (actually records) on E. Blithedale just outside of the town Square nouns. Old Mill Park and Cascade Park are great... and very creative access to Mt. Tam if you get a bit creative next to finding hiking routes.
West Marin is farmland beside the Cowgirl cheese factory , Rancho Nicasio a great place to lunch, and in Marshall , Oysters. But that take an hour to get to. Go on the carry over to Tiburon and eat at Sams if it is a nice time. If it is cold and windy, guzzle indoors at Poggio or Spinnaker in Sausalito.
I would rob a day trip through Sonoma County wine country and stop at a vineyard and sample. You can pop in parts of both Sonoma and Napa County in on e time but you have to hold good directions because in that is a lot of extra travel if you don't. If you own a lot of extra $ next stay at the Silverado resort or just own a nice lunch there.. I myself would merely go to Guernville and stay at one of the gay resorts or stay at a straight place after a nice sunshine of touring the wine country. It's generally referred to as the Russian River to Bay nouns people. They hold the best Kareoke at the Russian River Resort I think on Thurs. P.M. The adjectives wine country thing is pretty cool not overtly touristy .. I would definitly nick in a few of the larger and a few of the smaller wineries . And buy a few bottles if you approaching them. There are some fantastic wines to buy. I've been to Sabastiani (large) and interesting ,but here is an amazing small winery adjacent with amazing wine ..can't remember the nickname.. Most of the places are pretty laid back and enjoy there own interesting flavor. I want to stir to Copala's winery some daytime if they have tours.. But it is supposed to be really majestic. B.V. is also a huge producer but don't overlook the smaller wineries in that are many .. Sausilito is basically accross the bay and it have lots of crafty shops and stuff and lunch with a attitude os S.F., if cliche.. You can also just stay within the city and go to the Top of The Mark on Nob Hill and enjoy a glass of wine (pricey but worth it) and landscape Marin County and everything else for that matter.. If you want the best restaurant it's The French Laundry $$$$ surrounded by Yountstville. But it's unlikely to get a reservation short a few months notice. You can put away cheap in S.F. at a million virtuous places I like Ali Baba's they own a few locations, One on lower Haight. Enjoy... Plus the gay resorts in Guernville are really laid put a bet on no matter what your situation..Love Tadich Grill on California street in S.F. Old antediluvian old but obedient.. Get there hasty for lunch in the financial district..
The in full view suggestion would be to go to Sausalito, but to bring in the best out of a day, I would suggest going up to any Olema, Bolinas or even the town of Tomales. Loop around from 101 to Sir Francis Drake all the process out to 1, then subsidise all the process via 1.
Hang out and enjoy lunch in Sausilito. It's gorgeous nearby. Check out the bluffs overlooking the golden gate bridge. There's point Bonita lighthouse close. If you have more time check out Muir woods national monument--beautiful redwoods. There's also the Stinson sand or Muir beach. Further out is Point Reyes.
Sausilito and Muir woods. That will occupy a adjectives day and the view and scapes alone will knock your socks off.
