I've never be to New York and really want to shift. Should I move about to New York on New Years 2008 or loaf?

Is New York on new years overrated? Should I dance for New Years and pay extra money or dance sometime else during the year? I just want to know if New Yorkers regard as the whole bubble dropping thing contained by Time Square is a joke or is it really worth going. I want to turn to NY anyway, but I kind of enjoy a feeling New Years is a tourist experience.

Like many said, the bubble dropping thing is overcrowded. You have need of to be there really rash. We predict a very cold winter, so it would be freezing that hours of darkness. But that doesn't mean you can't do other things here during the unmarked year season. Shops, restaurants, a lot of local holiday market, free ice skating surrounded by Bryant park on 42nd street. If you are into the holiday celebration, it would be great to come now. If you are more into sightseeing, spring or summer is better. contained by the summer, there's also a lot of free concerts within the parks.
New York is perhaps the most festive place on the planet for New Year's Eve; but for precisely that foundation, it will be difficult if not impossible to find a room.

You've gotten mixed reviews when you come down to it Times Square experience, and here's why: Yes, it's a zoo -- there's zillions of people crammed into one tiny little spot, which can be crazy. On the other appendage, there's a reason why so tons people come: It's a blast!! Definitely not for everyone, it's an experience you should own at least once contained by your life. I did it various years ago, and I have no regrets. Will I do it again? Probably when the occurrence arises to take an out-of-towner for their first time.

So, if you can find a place to stay, by adjectives means travel. If not, the spring is a lovely time to visit, and you can stroll around Times Square within a more leisurely whim . . . and choose your hotel for NEXT New Year's Eve!

Happy Travels, and Happy New Year!

Sure, come to NYC. You don't own to be in Times Square to see the orb drop while getting cozy with 3 million strangers. There are closely of things to see during the Holidays in NYC. No place celebrate like NYC.
Its not so much overaterd as, coming into New York City for the first time on New Years is very overwhelming. Your better rotten coming in the spring. Its alot nicer
As a New Yorker, I would say don't travel on New Year's Eve.

I think of that complete Times Square ball dropping New Year's Eve item as the most touristy thing nearby is.

Go in the Springtime (April is a nice month to drop by NYC.) And get out and WALK profoundly! That's the best way to see NYC.

And don't a moment ago go to the touristy sites, but meander the streets and see the people and what it's really approaching here. That's the best thing to do surrounded by NYC!

Oh, I just looked-for to add to gcgofer that Broadway is indubitably NOT "closed due to the strike"! The strike ended a couple of weeks ago. I saw a Broadway play this previous Saturday (Tom Stoppard's Rock and Roll, about the Velvet Revolution surrounded by Czechoslovakia - NOT a musical.) I'd had tickets during the strike, but exchanged them for this previous weekend.
There is robust fog in my crystal globe right now, so I can't answer

You are coming alone? you are? why ever?
on New Years?

Strange!

Don't shift to Times Square. OK ?

You can see all the ball drop on tv, starting with London

Its tricky to say this year. Do you want to stay and do anything else within NYC? Broadway is closed due to the strike.

I have friends that own been within twice and say it is the biggest celebration around. You have to bring there hasty in direct to be close to the action. There are tons of restaurants and bar open adjectives around the times square area, and every place have its tvs turned on to the local action.
As to where on earth to stay, you don't have to stay contained by NYC. Their transit system is great, you can be 30 miles out of NYC within an hour of an event close to new years.
Its up to you, if you similar to the parties, the lights, the big town...turn for it. If you plan on seeing NYC and play tourist you may want to wait a year.
ooo my god, you unquestionably have see the ball drop on tv unless u spend adjectives day surrounded by times square you wont get anywhere to hand the ball dropping, forget this year i'm sure everything is booked dance to ny in the spring or summer to check things out and start planning a unmarked years trip, then book that untimely, reel hasty, NY is crazy all holiday season,,, we're talkin wall to wall relations everywhere you go.I go to the xmass show weeks before xmass and it be so crowded some people take scared and can't clutch it. Good luck.
