Good place to stop partially approach between NYC and Gatlinburg, TN?

Taking a road trip next week from NYC and am planning to stop within Gatlinburg, TN. From NYC to Gatlinburg is 12 hours. I would like to break the trip up surrounded by half and am looking for recommendation.

Just looking at the map, some choices that come to mind are Baltimore, MD, Blacksburg VA, or Harrisonburg, VA.

I was thinking roughly speaking Williamsburg, but that takes me too far east.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I actually go to college in Harrisonburg, VA. It is a wonderful place to visit and see. Theres more to do within than there is within Blacksburg. Theres Shenandoah National Park, theres the Massanutten Water Park, theres a bowling alley, roller rink, masses parks, JMU's campus (my alma mater), Shenandoah Heritage Market, and many other fun and interesting things to see and do. Blacksburg single really has VT, and if you move that, theres really nothing in attendance. You could also try Roanoke, thats a major city beside plenty of things to see and do.

Baltimore is too far east, dont go down I95, bring I78 to I81, trust me I know that one, live in NJ and did that trip masses many times.
Berkley Springs Va. It's not to far off track for you. Well worth the trip. I live north of Balt. and come past on my mode home from Knoxville three days ago. It's such a cute town. Filled with fluent springs all over the place. They even own a castle! For real. A movie theater that have sofas instead of regular seats. Lots of shops and the food is great. They hold a natural spring where on earth George Washington took a bath. It's of late a relaxing little town. I loved it. You'll see the exit off of 81 south. Have a undisruptive trip.
My line has done this EXACT trip copious times.

Places we've stopped over the years, that we've found to be nice places with obedient hotel accommodations:

Hagerstown, MD
Harrisonburg, VA
Staunton, VA
Winchester, VA

Tip: That run down I-95 through NJ, the Philly nouns, and DC can be horrendous. Instead, head out along 78 to Harrisburg, and whip I-81 down the rest of the way.

However, if you plan on seeing Washington, you can budge 95.

If you get a really untimely start, though, you can pull this sour in in the future. It's a long day, but we've done it successfully a few times.

One opinion? Maybe don't make a reservation. If you procure an early start and don't obtain stuck in traffic by the time you're in the middle through Virginia, you might consider trying to go adjectives the way. If you hold a reservation in Gatlinburg, send for ahead and see if you can get an extra afternoon. If not, maybe stop at one of the earlier-mentioned in the middle points anyway, and have a adjectives Day Two to finish the trip.

Enjoy the ride!
hey, unless you are planning to stay contained by the cabins contained by Gatlinburg, i wouldn't suggest going there. the big long street full of turn kart tracks is crap. trust me stay in Townsend. Its much better after experiencing the both. we stayed in that this past two summers and this winter. its especially queit at night and still close to gatlinburg/ pigeon forge. and its much cheaper.
