What is near to do surrounded by Orlando, FL besides Disney World?

|We will be there for 10 days and we are going to capture a 5-day Park Hoppers Pass for Disney World. But are there any pious beaches within reach? I know that Coco Beach and the Gulf of Mexico are 2 hours away (in opposite directions). Any devout pointers? Great beaches? Etc?

Our family of five (kids age 6, 7, and 8) merely got rear 3 weeks ago from our 2 week trip to Orlando.
Beaches--We went to a wonderful sand park in Cocoa Beach, which be about 1 hour away from our timeshare within Orlando. The LORI WILSON PARK, located at 1500 N. Atlantic Ave, has a playground, picnic nouns, restrooms, boardwalks and free parking. There was a nice long sandy shoreline. We spent an entire day within while the kids waded within the ocean and collected seashells.
Other attractions--Sea World is a great choice to see shows (and a nice break from rides, rides, rides). We got a programme at the gate and planned our route so we could see as oodles shows as possible. We started at Shamu Stadium and then worked our track left surrounded by a circle around the park. (I think we saw 5 or 6 shows.) Tip-Bring a poncho so you can sit up close *and* stay dry!
Pointer--If you step to Magic Kingdom by monorail (instead of ferry), go to the front of the monorail in the past you get on and ask if you can sit up front next to the driver. (Up to 4 people.) If it's full, lately wait for the subsequent monorail; it will come very soon and this is a great experience. The kids even get a co-pilot license card!
Everything depends on when you turn and who you are traveling with. If you're buying a park hopper, you're probably traveling near kids...so...if you go during Christmas or Spring Break, you will money to wait within line no situation where you run in Orlando. Universal Studios is pretty fun and there are some cool places to guzzle. My kids (early elementary age) like Universal better than Disney and here are usually good ticket deal. We also like the gulf side of Florida and "weak school" places like Treasure Island and John's Pass. The beach by Treasure Island are beautiful and you can collect shells adjectives day! NASA on Coco Beach is interesting. If you want some peace and gentle and time with disposition, check out Cedar Key on the gulf side. There's some good shopping contained by Orlando, too - lots of outlet malls and big shopping malls.

On the west coast, abundant people close to the area south of Tampa...Sanibel Island is especially in good health known for its general assortment of seashells. I'd also take surrounded by Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center. Lots to do in Daytona. North of Daytona more or less an hour is St Augustine, which is the nation's oldest city (est. 1565). LOTS of history and charm in that city (try the columbia Restaurant). In insertion to Cocoa Beach, I'd also try Daytona, Ormond Beach or St Augustine Beach. If you go due north from Orlando almost 2 hours, just north of Gainesville, you'll find some world class diving cave (springs). These are fantastic for diving (scuba), and are spring fed. Also, nearby are many rivers for canoeing and fishing. This is simply the tip of the iceberg. In Sarasota, there is the Ringling Museum (circus museum) and (in St Petersburg) the Salvador Dali museum. If you evolve to come in rash spring before baseball season starts, within are also many places where on earth you can catch a "grapefruit league" highest league baseball game.
I'm not sure where on earth the previous poster got the miles, but Cocoa Beach is the closest shoreline as far as I know. It's only nearly an hour from Orlando. The gulf beaches are two hours or more. If you are going to be here for 10 days, I'd conspicuously say budge to the beach at lowest possible once. If you want to drive a bit further, you could go to Daytona Beach as in good health, but for playing in the river or collecting shells, Cocoa is going to be fine for kids. My kids love it, we go several times during the year.

You might also try Cypress Gardens, Gatorland, Wonderworks or the unmarked SeaWorld waterpark, Aquatica, which will be opening surrounded by March this year.
