Yes, i live surrounded by West Chester,PA and i love it. I just moved here from Oklahoma. If you resembling the college atmosphere then you will love West Chester. There is a street of nil but bars and restaraunts. The atmosphere is great if you approaching walking around and bar hopping. Its mostly hopping on Thirsty Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
It depends on how much money you have. If you've get deep pockets, Philadelphia Mainline is the place to be. Lots of multi- million dollar homes and live among the well-heeled. If you close to the city, there are greatly of apartments and lofts to suit your taste. If you want better housing prices, progress south (Delaware County) or even move to Delaware and commute to Philly as a lot of other relations do.
Manyunk---it's similar to a trendy 20 something town.
West Chester is nice...very dainty, but a little far out from the city for using public transportation effectively. As other posters suggested, if you hold deep pockets, the Main Line suburbs are the place to be...Devon, Paoli, Ardmore, Bryn Mawr, etc.
