GR is a good place solitary if you drive.
i went college within GR, adn it is good and terrifically safe to live. i love it so much, and within is so much to do. but you really need a sports car to drive around, toehrwise, you can wait for the bus forever.
they hold much new building, and so tentative building in downtown. you can check the trellis site and see what you want to do.
Grand Rapids is pretty cool, there's usually a lot of stuff going on. If you're into the hotel scene there's some good ones downtown. The Gerald Ford Museum is pretty cool and nearby are a few nice parks. If you like sports, there's the West Michigan Whitecaps (minor league baseball - single A), as all right as the Griffins (ice hockey) and Rampage (arena football) who both play at Van Andel Arena downtown.
I can tell you it have lots of factories, from the final time I visited it ending year. Sorry, I live on the opposite side of Michigan contained by Detroit. LOL
Grand Rapids is a very aged City in the remodeling/rebuilding phase

I love impressive rapids! I'm going to school at hand this fall at Calvin. I also own a ton of relatives there. It have tons of stuff to do. There's a nice downtown area, great malls... There's free rime skating downtown in the winter (a kith and kin tradition).
