If you hold 4 wheel drive you can help yourself to lots of jeep roads out to the middle of nowhere to beautiful land (assuming you like desert scenery) and military camp and hike and wallow in getting away from it all. As the other poster said, springtime wildflowers can be spectacular, although ultimate spring was a bust because of poor rainfall.
