Only problem beside Montclair-Boonton Line of New Jersey Transit only operate during weekdays.
If you plan to go on weeeknd, remunerated $2.15 (US Dollar bills accepted) on New Jersey Transit #29 bus toward Newark Penn Station.
At Newark Penn Station, buy Pay-Per-Ride MetroCard for PATH which is $1.50 (March 2nd, $1.75)
Fare on local buses in NYC and Westchester County, Nassau $2, along next to $1.75 Bee-Line Bus becomes $2 and so does express bus remains $5.
There's NJ Path trains, NJ Transit buses. Go to njtransit.com and you will find alot of info there.
My friend, assuming that you're going to the city during the week (Monday to Friday), you can take NJ Transit's Montclair-Boonton Line from Bloomfield to New York Penn Station.
If you're traveling to the city during the weekend, the Montclair-Boonton Line on weekends. My warning is taking NJ Transit bus route #34 from Bloomfield to Newark Penn Station and take any the PATH train or any NJ Transit train from Newark Penn Station to New York City.
NJ Transit does not operates around the clock. The ultimate train on the Montclair-Boonton Line to New York City departs from Bloomfield at 10:36 pm and the last train from New York to Bloomfield departs from New York Penn Station at 12:34am.
Remember the Montclair-Boonton Line one and only operates during the week. You hold to take the bus to Newark Penn Station on the weekends if you travel between Bloomfield and New York City.
I hope this information is vastly helpful. Good luck.

It depends on where on earth in NYC you will be going. If your driving, for lower Manhattan use the Holland Tunnel, for midtown use the Lincoln Tunnel and for uptown use the George Washington Bridge. For mass transit though you'll own to depend on NJ Transit and/or PATH.
I used to commute from NJ to NYC each day for work. Some days when I got up too behind to hop on NJTransit to Newark Penn Station to catch the Path train, I'd drive and brave the evil Holland Tunnel traffic. I be commuting from the Middlesex/Dunellen area though which is more south of Bloomfield.
From Bloomfield its not that impossible as I'm pretty sure there's a NJTransit station in Bloomfield. Or its pretty unproblematic to take a bus to Newark Penn.
What may be COMPLETELY constructive for you (and was for me whenever I be elsewhere in NJ and have to get into the city) Is the NJ Transit Trip Planner: http://www.njtransit.com/sf/sf_servlet.s...
Type contained by where you're starting and where on earth you want to wind up and it give you directions every step of the way!
Also, NJ Transit trains don't run 24/7. They usually stop service around 12-1am and start up again at 5am, but the PATH trains do. (typically every 30 minutes belatedly at night)
I'll ask my cousin who drives to Bloomfield/Montclair what he does. Most imagined, he takes the NJ Transit to Newark Penn Station and next grab the Path train over. I'llask him and see if at hand is a more efficient and cheaper method to do it. and if they run 24 hours over in NJ.
