Will New Orleans be sheltered for Bowl Games?
My friends and I are planning to attend the NC game and wonder how sheltered is the city for tourists? Specifically during this time (late night after the game). Are police activing patroling, will near be an increased police (or guard) presence? Does anyone have guidance on the sanctuary of walking on Poydras to/from the Superdome. I love New Orleans and am so anxious to visit, but am merely a bit cautious. Thank you.

Thank you for visit New Orleans! .. and Yes, it will be safe. New Orleans is not even within the top 25 "most dangerous cities": http://money.cnn.com/2006/10/30/real_est...
The solitary guidance for walking on Poydras is there will be seriously of both vehicle and pedestrian traffic before and after the hobby. Taxis will be fairly confident to get formerly the game but almost inpossible for an hour afterwards. I recommend walking down Poydras (towards the river) to the Hotel Le Pavillion (Poydras at Baronne), hold a drink in the great hotel, and then ask the Doorman to find a cab for you (do tip).
Note that question like yours almost invariably attract "answers" from populace who do not live here and who have little or no notion what they are talking more or less.
In reality, New Orleans is precarious ONLY if you plan to buy or sell unendorsed drugs while you are here. Almost 98% of our murders happen inside the crack cocaine community and almost all of the other 2% are "domestic" homicides. That doesn't brand name the crimes OK, but you really don't have to verbs about it.
It is also NOT essential to "only stay surrounded by the French Quarter", and it's not true you have to "stay on the fundamental drag (Bourbon Street)", "not go out at night", "solitary travel in groups", or "don't nick your purse".
Just use the basic adjectives sense you need surrounded by every city in the world and you will be fine.
Do check the weather reports only before you confer on home as the temperatures around January 1st is unpredictable this far surrounded by advance.
Hope you enjoy a good trip!
