We want to rent a home ON THE BEACH contained by Malibu surrounded by a lively nouns. Is Malibu too isolated and muted?
Is there a 'town' to stroll to with restaurants, shops, etc? OR does everyone in attendance have to drive everywhere? We hold a car, but would close to to walk places...Would Laguna be a better choice?

Laguna would have a livelier seaside scene than Malibu and Laguna has abundantly of restaurants, bars and shops right by the shoreline. You can also be entertained by the normalize marijuana crowd that waves their signs surrounded by the park as you enter Laguna. Some times they are protesting one of our many war.
Laguna is a fun place. The Sawdust Arts Festival is going on right now so that brings contained by even more people.

Malibu is certainly 26 miles long, so the west end of it is really surrounded by the sticks without much, if anything, going on. Malibu is a hotspot for mudslides and flooding within the winter, and wildfires in the summer. Yes, you CAN be dying out even if you live on the beach. I'd pick Laguna Beach over Malibu any afternoon of the week.
Laguna Beach is a better choice. But you would own to be quite booming to afford either.
Laguna is my favorite shore in SoCal. Beautiful and have a lovely little town surrounding with restaraunts and shops surrounding. There are other people around.
Malibu is somewhat isolated from profusely of the surrounding towns; that is section of the appeal of living there for the residents. As you can see by looking at any map, Oxnard and Camarillo are the closest towns to the west (15 - 20 minute drive along PCH aka Pacific Coast Highway), Agoura and Calabasas to the north (15 - 20 minute drive on really blowing canyon roads), and Santa Monica and Pacific Palisades to the east. However, if you chose to look on the eastern portion of Malibu, you might just be close ample to Santa Monica where you could way of walking there and rear legs in a somewhat all right amount of time and be able to look in hot spots such as the 3rd Street Promenade.
Rental properties are outrageously priced; I've heard of properties range from $10,000 - $30,000 per month and I'm sure there are some that are more expensive.
As far as Laguna Beach self a better choice, that depends on what you really want. I know that the weather in Laguna tend to be up to 10 degrees radiator on average than Malibu during the summer and is on par with Malibu during the winter. Also, it have a population almost double that of Malibu, which might take away from the exclusivity. On the plus side, Laguna is contained by Orange County (tax rate 7.75%), while Malibu is in LA County (8.25%) and you won't hold to deal beside LA county's wastefulness. hey all the beachs enjoy shops and restaurants.. if i was u i would pick newport shore.. all thru the daytime and night ethnic group are just walking up and down the streets have fun with no worries contained by the world. plus its nice and clean over nearby and there is simply so many resturaunts and even a itilian one right on the coast which is really nice and be open actual late and even some f¨ēted chilli dog shops and other shops and there is also a club right on the seaside also which is why alot of people be out walking around
Look into Balboa Island within Newport Beach. Newport Beach borders Laguna Beach.
Rentals on Balboa Island are relatively affordable. We rented a 2 bedroom apartment for $1800/month which is about equal as anywhere in Orange County, but the shoreline was literally steps away. Of course, houses are available too if you don't resembling apartment living.
There is a walking path at go around the island, it is about 2.5 miles around. There are shops and restaurants on Marine Ave, which is the principal street. There is a small grocery store on the island and a large Pavillions grocery store a short walking distance rotten the island. There is also a ferry that go to the Peninsula where you will find more food and shopping.
Rentals on Balboa Island are available for vacationing and long possession. There are summer-only and winter-only rentals as well.
