I'm considering moving to philadelphia from fort lauderdale? anybody be surrounded by both places? Pros and Cons??

Do jobs within philly pay more than south floirda? south florida foot sucks! How are the schools up surrounded by philly? How much is rent? i heard that northwest philly is best place to live is this true? Is the cost of living surrounded by philly more than florida? Any personal experiences moving from florida to the northeast? Is philly a good northeast city should i consider other cities within the northeast?

I'd stay in Florida, no question. :-)
I grew up an hour outside of philly, so I hold it close to my heart. What you will find is that the locals are passionate in the region of everything, not just sports. And once you become bit of a neighbohood, you're treated like ancestral. There is always something to do, and it isn't adjectives that much more expensive than Ft Lauderdale (I'm in Florida presently, and often look in my uncle who lives in your town).

The foremost cons are an increasing crime problem (though most areas known to be "safe" still are) and traffic. I know adjectives cities have traffic problems, but Philly really is busting at the seam. The problem is that the one main road within and out of center city, I-76, is nestled between a river and a cliff. It's one and only two lanes respectively direction, and there is no room for expansion. Also, what someone else said roughly the public school system is true - they're pretty unpromising.

On the other hand, if you choose to live surrounded by the city, you wouldn't need to move it much. The areas South and West of City Hall are enjoying a rennaisance. I visit in the Spring for the first time contained by about 1 1/2 years and I could believe how much nicer some of the neighbohoods are. And if you're interested within colleges, there are MANY to choose from: Villanova, Temple, St. Joseph's, Penn...

To be honest, though, if I have to choose any city in the northeast to live, It'd be Boston. Can't explain why - a moment ago gotta see it for yourself. Don't know if you'd like their severe winters, though.
Fort Lauderdale is a attractive city!
Schools in philly are wishy-washy unless your going to business school-stay in sunning FL. It's cold here! Also Philly have one of the highest annihilation rates in the nation. If I have it to do over I'd move to North Carolina-plenty of schools next to Duke, NC State, UNC etc and you have plenty of bank to get solid job at to jump start your job. Hope this helps-plus Philly hasn't had a title fight team since 1983.
My husband and I just moved from FL to suburban Philly.

Philly and Pennsylvania can be more expensive. There is state income charge (which FL does not have), our car insurance go up as well. Also, if you work within Philly there is an extra city payroll import tax of about 3% that you hold to pay. Our rent is more, food seem to cost more as well. Utilities come across about one and the same. We moved from Gainesville, which is a lot cheaper than Ft. Lauderdale... but we also previously lived surrounded by Tampa and Orlando. I think most stuff and services (gas, car repairs, groceries) are slightly more expesive contained by Philly.

The schools suck contained by Philadelphia County. The schools within the suburbs are much better, otherwise look into private school.

While we are not thrilled near Philly, believe it or not we prefer it to Florida. But there are other Northeast cities to consider (depending on how much impossible weathernyou can take). Boston, NY and Washington could be of interest... but I think they are more expensive than Philly.

If you want to live surrounded by Philly, I would recommend renting in Chestnut Hill or West Mt. Airy. Those give the impression of being to be low crime areas. You may also want to consider Manayunk.

One thing you will find within the NE is that the infrastructure, buildings, houses, apartments, etc. are old. Everything surrounded by FL is brand new... so that may rob some adjusting. Also the culture are a lot elder... I think overall Florida's population is younger... they also whip care of themselves more. When I tramp around downtown Philly I see a lot of elderly, chubby smokers.
