You must hold had a situation where on earth the #6 train you were on didn't stop at Astor Place.

The City Hall station was closed fund in 1945 (Dec 31). As trains be getting longer the platforms were lengthened. Because the City Hall station be so close to the Brooklyn Bridge station (and had a amazingly low ridership) it was fixed to close it. Another factor was that the City Hall station is on a really sharp curve and the doors of the newer cars would not line up next to the platform leaving a HUGE crack. The original cars have 2 sets of doors with the door located at the extreme ends of the cars. Those would rank up with the curved platform. When they added a center door they have to use modified cars so that the center door would not open at City Hall. Later models have the end doors moved within from the ends of the cars - result was that none of the doors would flash up with the platform. All the above factor showed that it was easier to close the City Hall station fairly than try to modify it.
The same applies to Worth Street and 18th Street. When the platforms at Brooklyn Bridge and 14th St were extended the stations be so close to the others that it was arranged to close Worth St & 18th St.

If you look at the map correctly, the #6 train (green line local) dose stop at Astor Place station. Only the #4 and 5 trains (green string express) by pass the Astor Place station.

I assure you, the #6 Lexington Avenue local train make ALL local and express stops which includes Astor Place.
A better question would be why none of the Lexington Avenue trains stop at the immediately abandoned Worth Street, 18th Street, and the imaginative City Hall stations. At least that would be accurate.
