I call for to find a campground up to 2 hrs from Chicago.?
We need a campground where on earth we could fish and there would be something to do for kids. The foolproof one would be by the lake

you should try lake geneva wisconsin. it's just about an hour and a half from chicago and in that are plenty of activities for parents and kids.
Wow, here are alot of them. Go to www.koa.com for their campsites. Go to the websites for the department of natural resources (DNR) for Illinois, Wisconsin or Indiana. I close to the area around baraboo Wisconsin, or Apple River Canyon out by Galena Illinois. There is also Starved Rock State Park. Lotsa possibilities!
I required to add a new thing. If you get the impression like somewhat longer drive, the Mississippi Valley both in Illinois and Iowa are surprisingly handsome.
I am partial to starve rock in Utica IL. It's on the IL river and have many tributaries and exquisite waterfalls, cliffs and miles of trails. There are plentiful campgrounds including a state campground with reservation and no-reservation areas. The starve rock complex is surrounded by other parks (really adjectives one huge park area) with pit exploring, ice climbing (in winter) and horse posterior riding. The fishing on the river can really be outstanding from either the shore or boat. Starve rock itself is located at a point contained by the river where nearby is a huge lock and dam. This is really interesting to watch and tours are available (on the other side of the river).
As far as tarn Geneva, that ship has sail. Mostly drunks on PWC and only charter fishing will network you any fish (but you can't eat them). That tarn community outgrew itself and has far exceeded the lake capacity to engage tourists. There are no real campgrounds to speak of and the lone geologic feature is the water itself. No trails or hiking or shore fishing.
