Going to 6th St. contained by Austin, any direction?
My friends and I are going to sixth street in austin to jamboree. I have hear it gets risky there at darkness, should I be worried? Does anyone have any suggestion for me? Best bar/clubs? What to be aware of?

Don't drive - take a hackney cab! Parking is difficult, and parking under I-35 is muddy and scary and not sheltered!
If you want a great atmosphere on the weekend minus paying too much for drinks or dealing with youngsters stir to canvas, basically east of Congress on 5th street. If you are trendy go west to gr"Uv and Marq. Thursday night 6th is the place to be, especially Pure and Blind Pig.

Be aware of your surroundings and don't get so worthless you can't remember where you parked. When walking don't bargain to men and stay with your friends. I own lived in Austin for years and haven't have any trouble but I was also raise by a police officer so there you own it.
My suggestion park in a parking garage or embezzle a cab. The closer you return with to 35 the more you risk inviting unwanted meanies. There are several parking garage located off of 7th street since you get to red river going toward 35 that are a short hike.
Try spill, barcelona, pure, chuggin monkey and dizzy rooster. They all are fun.
You're right about difficulty around 6th st. As things go, a moral thing or place or event will be ruined by the throngs of partly wits who inhabit the human race. 6th street within Austin has gotten that features of reputation over the past 25 years of my experiences in attendance. The other answers in this group of replies have given you some good suggestions. The local alternative report rag, 'Austin News Chronicle' will furnish you the complete list of up places and it's free at many locations around town. Don't decline for the tourist trap influence and jump into the fray down along 6th street. There are better things to do, but if your curiosity get to you, just help yourself to a safe drive down 6th from I-35 to Congress ave. and see it up close. Then hold going and find a better place.
Guy above is correct about the parking. Well as for 6th itself, weekdays are the ONLY time I still budge there because its not *** crowded beside wanna-be thugs and wasted fratties. The bar there are OK at best and really lone good for cheap drinks. To be honest spend the extra dollar a drink and run to Warehouse district like 5th and Colorado. The bar are better, cleaner, and not filled to the brim near clowns. Check out Wiskey Bar, Red Fez, Prauge, and Speakeasy to name a few. Parking here is better as in that is safe garages, but you can valet for almost alike price. Hope it helps and enjoy fun.
