Is there a shuttle? I don't want to rent a saloon. It will be during the day.

The best opening to get away from LAX, short of renting a sports car, is via private mini-shuttle vans, which stop outside each terminal below the sings marked "Shuttle". Its roughly $10-20, half the cost of a minicab. All American Shuttle, Prime Time and Super Shuttle are some of the shuttles and you can call them for information. You also capture a bus, by taking the free 24 hour shuttle C bus which stops outside of each terminal, to the LAX transit Center at 96th and Vicksburg Ave. Here you can connect to public buses that will appropriate you anywhere in LA. Of course, taxi will take you anywhere, and I recommend using one of those to return to LAX to be sure you cause the plane on time.
Things to do: Wow! Everything. Santa Monica's 3rd Street Promenade, spending the daylight at Universal Studios, strolling the beach from Santa Monica Pier to Venice Boardwalk, Visiting the Getty Center. Too much to chronicle. Your best bet is to go to Borders bookstore, acquire a coffee and read the book by Lonely Planet on Los Angeles, or another good travel book. Have fun. I live contained by Southern California and find each entity I do a new experience. Be expand, plan ahead and you will have a great time.
u can lug the free shuttle (i forgot which one outside the terminal) to the Green Line metro rail station. wage $5.00 all light of day or $1.25 per stop. u can go to hollywood, the guardrail stops right in subsequent to the chinese and kodak theather. same with broad studios and citywalk, pasadena, chinatown, the groove farmers market (u enjoy to walk a little). or thieve a bus from LAX to santa monica or venice, marina del rey.
beside just 11 hours, I'd give somebody a lift a cab. You could jump to the Santa Monica Pier, site of lots of movies and do a little shopping/eating within Santa Monica or cab it to the Getty Museum, see some fabulous art. If the timing is right, you could minicab to Hollywood, then bear a tour from Dearly Departed Tours or some other tour company, take a photo of the Hollywood sign etc. Then hackney cab back to the airport.
Give me a hundred bucks depending on where you wanna travel ... and I'll take you places ...
