Vacation accepted wisdom anyone?
Hi, my bf and i are looking to get away for just about 5-7 days when the weather gets somewhat bit more consistent. we are from chicago and want to know if anyone has philosophy of a nice getaway spot not too far away. we will be driving and are hoping to stay within the midwest instead of wasting our time driving far.

In southwest Michigan there is South Haven (a unadulterated hidden treasure) going on for 2 and half hours from Chicago. It have a great downtown area where on earth you can walk to adjectives the shops and eat a great places resembling Clementines (an old converted ridge with tin ceilings). Then totter down a hill along the Black River to Lake Michigan. This pace has great river views! You can stroll out on the pier and sit under the lighthouse and survey boats come in. The layout is not unlike Chicago where on earth you have the Chicago River adjectives through town and leading to Lake Michigan near beaches/boats. It's a great place and it appeals to all age groups (north shore for party relatives and south beach for relaxed types.) Very nice place beside great beaches.
Within driving distance is Saugatuk (trendy/artsy shops), St. Joseph (outdoor eateries) and Holland (outlet mall).
In Indiana you've get Shisphewana (Amish areas)...beautiful. Huge flea flea market.
Madison, WI is also a cool place. If you go, check out Glass Nickel Pizza--great food.

May I suggest or recommend Niagara Falls, New York?
It's extremely romantic and there are abundant memorable tourist things to do as the falls are illuminate at night! There is Maid of the Mist boat ride and Journeys bringing up the rear the Falls via Tunnels.
While you're there, it's also emphatically worth driving into ONTARIO CANADA and maybe staying overnight surrounded by TORONTO but please note that US Citizens in need passports must carry their birth warrant and some form of Photo ID like your driver's license.

How in the region of.hmmm. Minneapolis? They might have snow at the moment. I would check on that.
How about Wisconsin Dells? Buena Vista be a nice place to stay.
Maybe a sea resort in Minnesota? Water skiing, fishing, boating, walking surrounded by the woods, relaxing?
