I want to move to NYC eventually, but I want to be comfortable so how much money would I entail to be comfy?
I'm only a freshman contained by highschool but I've dreamed about moving to NYC for years... preferably Manhatten. I've hear its expensive which is why I want to start early.
So is it really that expensive? What are some Pros and Cons?
How much would I necessitate... would it be better to go after highschool or after college?

Rent: $2500 a month, minimum for a SMALL place
Electric: $125 a month
Phone: at most minuscule $40 a month - if you use Vonage or something like that, $60-$75 if you next to the phone company
Cable: easy $90 a month for supporting
Other "bills" - depends on where you rent - some charge you for litter removal, etc.
Groceries - that depends on you. Most people I know spend $75 to $100 a week for one individual
Entertainment: minimum $200 a week for one dinner out and a club once a week
This does not include transpo other than walking. Cabs can be expensive, but the subway and buses aren't as pricey. You're looking at the showing minimum of $3500 a month just to own a roof over your head and food on your table. This doesn't count any other necessities - similar to new clothes, etc. Manhattan is one of the few places where on earth you can make $100K a year and be considered "poor".
pros: through thorny work, and perseverance, you made it to nyc.
cons: you are in a minute making $18k, living with 3 roommates contained by an illegally converted warehouse contained by bushwick, and spend your friday nights dumpster diving near a bunch of freegans you met through craigslist. :D
Since your rent should be individual 1/3 of your income, after taxes, you should plan on about $3,500 a month . contained by addition, you involve some equity to fall final on (say $15,000 at least ..at *least* !!) since you do not want to be one paycheck away from the welfare department and losing your apartment, surrounded by case you should lose your situation ..so: whenever you think you could muddle through that, that will be the time to come.as long as the cost of living stays the same !

well i live here, and if you want to be comfortable youre not going to find an apartment contained by manhattan for less than 1500 a month. you can find one for cheaper, but it might be a cramped little studio surrounded by harlem or something.
my suggestion is living in queens or brooklyn (i live within qns), you can find something much cheaper and still be about 20 or 30 mins from the city at adjectives times. i rent my apt in queens for 800/month and i live within a fairly clothed neighborhood.
go after college so hopefully youll own a good employment and wont have to verbs about paying rent! or you could of late apply to FIT or NYU or one of those and go to academy in the city and gain ur degree at matching time
My friend, New York City, within particular Manhattan, is expensive. Like the first poster said an apartment here cost $1500 or more a month. Consider living surrounded by the outer borough, were rent is cheaper and you'll still enjoy a 20 to 30 minute commute by subway.
My other best bet, if possible, come to New York after you graduate from college and hold good undertaking. I know I'm going ahead in time, but its a opening to tell you that its best to hold a good charge in writ to live here.
