Chicago!! Detroit has a really glorious crime rate.
I've simply been to Chicago once, it be very nice. Stayed a week. Lots of shopping, great food, a museum too. Awesomeness.
We drove though Detroit on the process to Windsor, stopped for gas. I remember specifically that the gas station was out of Diet Pepsi and with the sole purpose had caffeine free Diet Pepsi, which be obviously not an alternative. So Detroit therefore sucks. You're warmth.

Haven't been to any but from what I've seen on our small screen, Chicago sounds better than Detroit.
On the other hand, I enjoy old friends (from 50 years ago) living close to Detroit so I could depend on them, I hope, to guide me through.

Been to both cities, this is not a competition, Chicago hands down. Detroit is a city surrounded by decline, high dismissal, high crime, deteriorating corporate environment. Detroit is the #2 city within the U.S in lingo of violent crime and currently have an unemployment rate of 8% vs. the national average of 4.5%.
Chicago otherwise is one of my all time favorite cities, so vibrant, tons to do! Its not even close, definately chicago!
