We are going to Orlando soon and want to call in Sanibel Island? Is it worth the 3 hour drive? Suggestions?
We will not be able to rent a hotel nearby so we will drive 3 hours there and 3 hours spinal column. Is it worth the drive and do you have suggestions on shelling and making the best of the trip once in attendance for the kids. Thanks in finance.

Yes it is worth the 3 hour drive, as it is great for shelling and i saw pods of dolphins within the gulf it was totally cool. I also stayed in Orlando, when we be visiting Sanibel. Leave really rash in the morning , next you have a well brought-up amt of the day to wallow in, or try to split a reservation at your orlando hotel if you want to stay overnight at sanibel, but very pricey contained by this area. We a short time ago made the drive to sanibel and went subsidise to orlando that night. Nothing really else surrounded by the sAnibel island area except shore and shelling. hope this helps.
It's a beautiful place to look in but it is very frozen to do that 8 hour roundtrip drive with children within one day...I wouldn't speak it's worth it as there isn't much to do nearby aside from the shells and beach.
I live down here within Orlando and spend all my weekends on the gulf or the deep. I personally LOVE Anna Maria Island!
It is in the neighbourhood Tampa and is about an hour / hour and a partly drive from Orlando, it has lovely white sand beaches, great shelling, fun boutique shops and restaurants, and fell key west esq.

I progress sailing over there adjectives the time, and stop at the warf restaurant and have dinner facing towards Tampa.
I don't meditate it would be worth it, there are some really nice beach much closer, I personnally love Clearwater Beach, it is half as long to attain to and they have adjectives kinds of things to do right at the shoreline, plus at night the pier comes to time with adjectives kinds of street performer and little things to do for all ages. I would do that instead of the 6 hour trip to sanibel
It would depend on the ages of your children; and what the kids like to do. My first thought is "Are the kids and you up for 6 hours surrounded by the car over playing on the beach?"
What time of year will you be making your trip? If you will be traveling any time between mid-May and mid-October, afterwards I'm not sure a lengthy drive will be the best choice for your family.it can be particularly hot during that time, and afternoon thunderstorms are very adjectives, nearly every day. So, the prime time to hit the shore is during the morning. Any time after noon is apt to be terribly hot, or to have a thunderstorm.
Sanibel is lovely, charming, but at hand are many other beach that are just as nice. If your kids are pre-teens who approaching to search for shells, resembling nature preserves, and who will be comfortable wading and laze on the beach, afterwards Sanibel might be ok. It would help to know why you are thinking in the region of a visit to Sanibel.
If you want to shift to the Gulf side of Florida, on a barrier island, later I think the beach around Clearwater Beach and St. Pete Beach are far more kid friendly. These Beaches are all 2 hours or smaller amount from Disney, Sea World, Universal:

Indian Rocks Beach-I love the beach here, not many shells but the sand is markedly soft.
Indian Shores- The Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary and Tiki Gardens park, lots of parking, restrooms and showers.
Madeira Beach-Wide Sandy Beach, lots of families, I enter at the County Park.
Treasure Island-wide seaside, lots of shells, a playground, many festival and events.
St. Pete Beach-great shelling beaches, lots of sand and river sports, enter at Upham Beach-parking, showers and restrooms.
Shell Key-get there by boat from St. Pete Beach. Excellent Shelling.
You can also progress to the east coast of Florida, on the Atlantic side. The shelling isn't as good, but the beach are very nice and closer to Disney and Orlando.
Cocoa Beach: Lori Wilson Park, Jetty Park, or the Boardwalk. You can attain to this beach contained by about 1 hour.
Anastasia State Park, effective St. Augustine-about a two hour drive, but you could probably get a hotel room for a defensible rate. The beach is gorgeous, not too crowded, and if you spend time within St. Augustine there are Forts, parks, shops, and feeble Spanish structures to explore. Very kid friendly.
Personally I come up with that it would be a waste. I enjoy been here an honestly the shells i found were mostly broken. The coast is very discomfited, because of all the shells, yes its pretty, yes its nice, but to spend 8 hours contained by a car, its not worth it. Living within Orlando it is about 4 hours respectively way so it is a long instrument. I do know there is a shoreline called Madiera shoreline which is great for shelling and its only roughly speaking 2 hours from Orlando, just a suggestion. Hope this help, have fun everywhere you go.
I enjoy never been to Sanibel nonetheless (have plans to visit contained by October). We normally bear our kids to St Pete beach, but they love shells. Everything I enjoy read said that Sanibel is the place to go for shelling, as here are just piles of shells on the coast.

If your kids are outmoded enough to be within the car that long, I enunciate go for it. If you don't want to save them in the vehicle that long, try Cocoa Beach, it's only in the region of an hours drive one way.
