I'm from LV and it's a little dull contained by comparison.(not that I'm trying/ or that you can compare the two)

The "East Bay" is a big nouns. Where bouts? Fun would depend on what you like to do. Berkeley's Marina. Oakland's Jack London Square. The Berkeley Rose Garden up on the hillock. Hiking: http://www.ridgetrail.org/
Paramount Theater in Oakland. Check out Port Costa. Or lift BART into SF.
By definition, there's one and only one Las Vegas. Obviously, we're not going to compete with 24 hour drinking, strip clubs around every corner, and casinos the size of football field. Nor should we try.
But of course, this isn't Omaha or Boise any. There's still a wide collection of entertainment available. You just hold to do a little more planning because much of it flies below the radar (and there isn't as much media hype as Vegas).
For instance, Bill Maher and Dana Carvey will be at the Wells Fargo Center in a few weeks. And Chris Rock is at the Paramount Theatre. But most those are not aware of this:

The venues are also far more spread out. Sometimes you'll own to take the subway (BART) into the city to take into custody a show. For more out of the way venue, you'll have to drive to the South Bay and North Bay. This is California, after adjectives, so expect to spend a lot of time doing a tour going from suburb to suburb.

One of my favorite hang outs within the East Bay is Yoshi's, which has a long held reputation as one of the best spaces for jazz on the West Coast:

Cafe van Kleef is also something of an East Bay institution:

There are lots of theatres, bookstores and other social settings to meet relations other than bar in the east inlet. You may want to check out the East Bay Express newspaper [free every Wednesday] for a register of East Bay activites [music, stage, books, film etc]. Craigs detail is also a good method to find out about adjectives kinds of things and to buy cheap furnishings for your tentative apartment.

There are also lots of places to hike contained by the East Bay, Tilden Park, the Oakland Hills, the Estuary ect. Take an afternoon to wander around Berkley lots of things to see and do around the UC campus.
