I'm actually doing the disparate and going from NYC to London. I found the BA had other, so try them first.

It's cold here in January and sometimes it snows. The crisscross can really pick up in manhattan around the skyscrapers.
You are correct in the order of the exchange rate, which means you will achieve more for your money. In general, NYC is an expensive city compared to other US cities.
Metrocard (for subway and buses) can be purchased a few different ways. You can receive an unlimited day passs, but if you are staying more than sooner or later, you maybe opt for a week unlimited. You can also purchase a card by putting a dollar amount on it.
Some highlights:
Manhattan is broken down into neighborhoods, a short time ago like London. Soho have great shopping and people watching.
Ground Zero (financial district), Chinatown and Tribecca are adjectives in lower Manhattan.
The Empire State Building, Bryant Park, Time Square and Rockefeller Center are Midtown.
The Upper East side along Central Park have a bunch of Museums, The Met, The Whitney and The Design Museum.
The Upper West along the park has The Natural History Museum.
Starting at Central Park going south on 5th avenue give you high expire stores such as Saks, Bergdorf Goodman, and Bulgari. You will also pass St. Patrick's Cathedral and Rock Center.

Yes, NY is cheaper, for correction from pounds to dollars. I've never been to England, so I can't compare within other ways. Well. In NY, at least contained by the city (do you know about the 5 boroughs? Manhattan, Brooklyn, Staten island, Queens, Bronx), bus fare, later time I checked (I moved from the state about a year ago), be 2 dollars. Thats not for the express bus (= 5 a ride). You get a verbs when you pay, so taking 2 buses = $2. But that verbs expires after a period of a few hours. A Metrocard get you through subways and buses.
You can get whats call a "fun card", which you have to settle up $8 for. It lasts you for the undamaged day, but at the shutting down of the day its deceased. Oh, but if you're for reusing stuff and all, you can pick up your card and refill it next to money at one of the machines.
Sometimes if you don't have your fare the busrider would still consent to you on... as a student, thats what happened to me lots.
Then theres the take which takes you between Staten Island and the city (what locals name Manhattan, where the Empire State building and Twin Towers site is located... within case you don't know). It doesn't cost anything, and the times it comes are usually within half hours. Taking the transfer will ride you past the Statue of Liberty. While contained by the ferry terminal, pick up a map. They'd hold those of bus routes and subway lines. Also there are Metrocard machines at take terminals. You can insert dollars into those machines to bring a card, but you must use change for the buses (or a Metrocard). In subways, theres no adjustment deposits. Use the card. But in subway stations in that are also machines. Oh, and you can pay for cards at oodles delis.
Theres a sandwich food place I wouldn't call a restaurant, but neither are the types of sandwich fast food. You'll see a place call Subways around a lot. Sandwiches.
Where should you stay... hmm. Staten Island is a nice suburb nouns, but I don't know of any hotels. New Jersey and the surrounding states are cheaper than NY. My dad always used to hold us to the Woodbridge (?) mall contained by NJ, cuz of the lesser taxes... though it might've changed. The commute to NJ to NY isn't extraordinarily long. My sister lives in NJ but go to Manhattan every workday. 15 minutes, she said? She uses the express bus (I think).
January is a good time to progress. Christmas and New Year sales! Oh yeah. Check CVS, a pharmacy, for righteous deals on candy. :D When going to a non-clothing shop, close to CVS, Duane Reade, Walgreens, and Staples, ask for a card. They're free, and you get points (which, at tiniest for CVS, you get stuff surrounded by the mail when you win enough. Like razor and... stuff) and discounts with them.
Ahh. And sandals contained by NY are called flip flops. I hear they were call thongs in England?
"Upstate" refers to everywhere else within NY besides New York City. Yes, the actual city of NY is called that. Named after itself. Upstate, things budge slower. My sister, a city native, be frustrated that the coffee lady be taking so damn long, and her friends were similar to, chill. Whats wrong with you? Nnn.
Um, theres this restaurant call Dojo in Manhattan. Its really yummy. Healthy, cheap, pleasing, and cheap.

I've never be there, if truth be told. Though I think its simply a mosaic at the spot, it must feel... hmm.
Check out Expedia they usually enjoy good deal. We managed to seize a suite at the Waldorf ridiculously cheaply. A friend stayed at the Hudson and said that the rooms were particularly small. The flight was near American Airways who where pretty suitable. You should. To get an theory of how far places are from a hotel it takes roughly 4 - 5 minutes to walk a block. at hand is good shopping everywhere. If you want a barter head to Century 21 its divergent the twin towers site, but you need time to turn through everything its a bit like TK Maxx but better. Maceys also own a discount card you can get if you are a tourist. Stuff is cheaper over within so don't take too copious clothes in your suitcase or buy another one while you are out there. i hope you enjoy a good time. Skincare is much cheaper over near too, Sephora is good for that.
