Actually, that's usually a pretty warm time of year. It will drop some from September to December, but you're still looking at an average each day high heat of around 75 degrees surrounded by San Diego (cooler in the mornings, sometimes as low as the 40's). However, once December rolls around, you're also looking at the possibility of precipitation, so make sure you own wet-weather gear.
I be born and raised contained by san diego and still live here, it actually get hotter later within sept because we get hit beside santa ana weather. But in mid october it begin to cool down like 68-65 degree its nice...
From now through give or take a few early November it'll still be pretty pleasant. glorious 60's to mid-70's. By Christmas, it will usually start to drop to about the lofty 50's to low 60's...although I remember more than one Christmas spent in shorts poolside!!
now, sept is melt -- wear shorts but eves are getting cooler. in november/december you may be "breathing steam" contained by the morning, but afternoons will warm up -- later chilly evenings. thxgiving you can usually sit outside w/ teeshirts/shorts in the sunny afternoon & travel boogie boarding after turkey.
i can't remember when it last rain hard contained by december...usually feb/march if at all... & hopefully it will rainfall a lot this yr!
