Check out the Anchorage Daily News online. I think you can head a wonderful life. We do!
Look on craigslist, that way you can est. what the cost of living is base on housing and wage.
Sounds like you've figure out the housing part which for Anchorage, I'd read aloud is close to the US average. Outside of Anchorage housing and especially land is much cheaper especially considering the view, waterfront and forested land that can be have.

Food: Dry goods are pretty much impossible to tell apart. Fruits and veggies are $0.60 to $1.00 more per pound for getting airfreighted up. And they are 1-2 days older than surrounded by Seattle.

Clothing, consumer goods: Really pretty close to 48 state prices. There are Wallmarts, Best Buy, Home Depot, Safeway, etc. Bringing that stuff up on container ships is really pretty cheap.

Fuel: gasoline (currently going on for $3.45/gallon) has be really close to 48 state prices for years now. Natural gas (for heat your house has historically be cheaper than in the 48 but is starting to rise resembling everywhere else. Electricity is still cheaper than other US cities.

But consider that you might USE a lot more fuel to steam your house because of the cold winters. NEVER rent or buy a place unless they will show you a year or two of past fuel bills. A poorly constructed house or apartment could requirement hundreds of dollars more heating per month.

One intangible is how much more you'll play outside. If you stand within a salmon stream and catch a few fish respectively day contained by June and July, it is a cheap hobby and you'll cut your food bill a lot. And own some really tasty fish adjectives winter. But if you buy a boat, 4-wheeler, a 4WD truck and lots of guns and take lots of time past its sell-by date work to go grasp all that "free meat", you better really delight in the pursuit because it is going to add up. As does getting or even renting an airplane. If you stick the muscle-powered sports - hiking bicycling, X-C skiing, than you'll be athletic, more mental stable in the winter and you'll avoid the huge expenses of snowmobiles, boat motors, etc.

You'll stipulation more warm clothes but they don't enjoy to be stylish. Nothing does. I've been to a celebratory in which the groom wore Carhartts (they be NEW Carhartts). I do the same work in a minute in Dockers and a button-down shirt I used to wear slacks, tie and the occasional jacket for surrounded by the 48 states. I keep a few ties around mostly for funerals and business trips to the 48 states. So you'll spend more at LLBean but smaller amount at Abercombie & Fitch.

Also, Alaskan travel "Outside" more to visit nearest and dearest and take a break sometimes during winter. Air travel ain't getting any cheaper. We probably drop $10k on familial travel alone, but that's for 4-5 people and we call round the grandparents and the tropics with some frequency.

$70k is a comfortable take-home pay for a couple in Anchorage. But you should really label the decision base on if the scenery, the closeness to spectacular harsh environment and the sense of optimism are worth it to you compared to the long winters and distance from home.

And once you've been here a calender year, you'll start getting your PFD of more or less $2,000/year per person. (Free money from the state simply for taking up space).
