There are cisterns lying on every building contained by New York City...what are they for?
I recently visit New York city for the first time and I noticed that almost every building have a cistern on top of it. I asked several of the original New Yorkers that I was scheduled time with roughly speaking them, and none could tell my why they are within.
My guess is that they serve one of three purposes.my guesses are:
1. Storing water for the fire suppression system contained by the building.
2. They catch and hold sea for use in watering gardens, wash clothes, or other practical purposes. This seems logical because it would eat up water costs for the building owner.
3. Or, they are at hand to help next to water pressure. Pressure might be low if hose has to be pumped to the top.but if dampen was pumped into a cistern first and next delivered downward when critical, it seems that that would increase hose pressure.
Can anyone give me a final answer once and for adjectives?

Its for storing water. Place where on earth water is where on earth water is scarce or does alot of irrigation will hold them.
Really singular number 3, its all just about water pressure. They don't collect marine and they are all tied into the city dampen system which is the best city water contained by the country. Obviously sprinklers may use the same hose down through the building's plumbing but they aren't expressly for that purpose.

It's for water pressure. There are no pumps within the NYC water system. NYC hose down flows downhill from upstate. Since water seek it's own level, to save pressure up some older buildings hold water towers.
We call them marine tanks. Water from the city system is pumped up through the building into the cistern, then the river is used to maintain wet pressure in the building.
