Answers:
I would say Kennesaw or Woodstock. Its still effective Atlanta, but they are nicer areas (in Cobb County). I think they are a short time more country with still semi-easy access to the city.
I live in Rome, GA!! but it's 1 and a partly hour away!! it is a small town!!
It really depends on where on earth you work as to where the best place to live is, but I close to Acworth. Its close to Atlanta, growing rapidly, right on Lake Allatoona, Lots of shopping. Lots of job close by. Near Red Top Mountain park. Great benefits in this nouns.
LIVE CLOSE TO YOUR JOB! TRUST ME!

if you can't afford to live close to your job, I suggest this:

if your duty is in downtown, live somewhere along I-20 highway where on earth traffic is a little more bearable. driving along 400, I-75, or I-85 going south to downtown during rush hour will create you homicidal.

if your job is on the East side (decatur, stone mtn, duluth, buford, tucker, lithonia, gwinnet county areas), you can choose one of those cities for clad neighborhoods.

if you want the North side (alpharetta, roswell, dunwoody, sandy springs, buford, vinings, smyrna, marietta, kennesaw, cobb county, etc), the neighborhood prices are slightly more expensive the closer you get to Atlanta. but its worth living on the northside to enjoy a short drive to work. if you can't afford the North side, pick a city west of those areas (austell, douglasville, lithia springs, carollton, cherokee county, paulding county, etc) and you can drive east-north along 285 to have a "reasonable" commute. driving from the east or from the south to the north side is HOMICIDE inducing as ably.

if your job is within Buckhead, your life will be HELL because within is no ez commute to/from Buckhead and the house/apt prices are not affordable at all!! Think of it resembling Hollywood and Manhattan jacked up prices!

the South side near airport, you can find honest neighborhoods (and some bad ones too). south fulton county (atlanta), clayton county and fayette counties adjectives have thoroughly decent neighborhoods beside some golf communities too.

good luck! did I mention that you should live close (like 10-15 miles) to your opportunity !!
i live in Woodstock Georgia. it is roughly a 30-40 min commute to Atlanta. it is a really nice growing area and within are plenty of new neighborhoods going up for you to choose from. in attendance are quality glorious schools, Woodstock illustrious school for example which have great teachers and the most recent technologies. its close to everything. malls, lake, out door activities.everyone i know loves it here.
If you are going to work contained by downtown Atlanta, buy a condo nearby. Don't torture yourself or your husband by have them do a 30-40 mile commute. That will be at least 1.5 hours. Buy and inexpensive condo and buy a weekend house opening out.
I used to live within Alpharetta / Milton and it was okay, but traffic on 400 would be a strain if you're commuting to/from anywhere inside I-285.

I now own a condo within unincorporated DeKalb County, with a Decatur address. I really resembling my area, north of Stone Mtn Freeway and east of Church St. It's relatively straightforward to get anywhere you want from here. If your work is downtown, you're contained by luck because Decatur has a MARTA station, plus there's one contained by Avondale too. The condo community where I live is hushed and very, thoroughly affordable.
Alpharetta is VERY upscale, near clean, secure neighborhoods and infrastructure. Traffic is a nightmare, however, and it is a little expensive.

Kennessaw is more rural, but is still close to everything and is growing hurriedly. I don't know how high prices are, though.

Those are my favorite two. Stay away from:
Gwinnett County (gangs, too diverse for my taste, HORRIBLE traffic)
Dekalb/Clayton Counties (awful crime, lots of problems in gov't, discouraging schools, purely read the AJC vents for these counties and you'll see what I mean)
Look at East Point, there is a neighborhood within called Egan Park. About five years ago they begin tearing down the elderly crack houses and building new Craftsman style homes. It's 5 minutes from the airport and 2 marta stations. 9 minutes to Turner corral.

The private school Woodward Academy is across the street and is one of the best prep school in the US.

Go check it out, it's bad exit 73.
