Yes, all dark.. I went to college contained by Salem, lived there for 5 years.. every halloween I still step up.. it IS exactly like Mardi Gras, and everyone is within costume..
there are a bunch of bar, you can sit and drink and people examine, or watch street performer, hit up haunted houses, etc... I enjoy sitting outside at the "Lobster Shanty" and watching crazy costumed race go by as I capture a good buzz! great times!

There's tons to do within Salem but if you really want to spook yourself out go at hand and sit in the cemetary beside a ouija board on Halloween night. The haunted houses are cheesy but fun.
I went concluding Halloween and its like Mardi Gras! They block rotten most of the streets to vehicle traffic downtown and there are individuals in costumes everywhere. There are so heaps people you will be shoulder to shoulder on some streets. There are also lots of street performer to watch. We newly walked around looking at everyone and stopping at every public house to have drinks. It's a mad outdoor party until roughly speaking 11pm when the police kick everyone sour the streets. Then the bars are the place to be until just about 2am and many hold costume contests. There are tons of spooky things to see and do all darkness. We had a blast and I outstandingly recommend going!
(don't take infantile children unless you are off the streets by around 8pm).

OH and I do know from personal experience that there is a Salem Beer Works right surrounded by downtown Salem. I bet they are bumping on Halloween night!
