I've presently been to both and LA doesn't hold a candle to NYC. I love NYC. LA is suitable if you want to go to Disneyland, but NYC have so much more to do with Broadway, the Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, adjectives of the mass shopping (much more than LA and Rodeo Drive have), and just walking around taking it adjectives in.
I'm already planning my subsequent trip to NYC and I was one and only there for the first time surrounded by December 2007.

Definitely NYC. NYC is Great! I suggest you to travel to the Rockefeller Center. It is really cool and fun to be in nearby, you would enjoy the shops, rime skating rink, museums, and the city itself. I also would suggest you to visit Time Square, and Broadway Theater. There are awesome areas and places contained by New York City. You will love it! Enjoy!
