Thoughts on moving to hawaii?
Im thinking about trying to move in that after i graduate with my political science scope. Could someone that lives there detail me what the cost of living is and how it stakes up against other states and maybe charge opportunities.

Hawaii is a great state to live in. The cost of living is extremely soaring. Be prepared for a very elevated cost of living. Check out rent or real estate up to that time you make your choice. You may even want to pop in there formerly you make your choice. It's a great choice, but an expensive one. Have a charge lined up first!!

plus tax,electric,handset,internet,making out to more than a thousand per month.
Milk - $6/gallon
Gasoline - $3.40/gal (regular, unleaded)
Bread - $4/loaf
Apples - $2/lb
Looking through the local reporters at rents - even studios were mostly > $1K/mo, unless you are looking route out in the boonies.
Having said adjectives of that, I still love living here. Even though there are frequent disadvantages to living here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
My answer is if you're going here for a poly-sci related job, don't budge. Otherwise, try something else like within tourism industry, eco-tours or the like.

Definitely pop in first, and not just Waikiki. Look at the residential neighborhoods you might want to live, the stores, and places you would approaching to frequent. Like if your favorite thing to do is snowboarding, or riding roller coasters, or _______, you might be dismal because there's no place to do that on Oahu.
Remember a ticket off the island is $200+ and 5 hours, which can be confining.
Things are expensive, complex to get a fully clad one-bedroom apartment for cheaper than $1100. Gasoline is generally no more expensive than it is surrounded by California, it's not $5 as previously mentioned, but groceries are generally 20-40% more expensive.
Also you might not be welcome with unfold arms coming from the mainland, many those are prejudiced against people from the mainland picturing you as individual fast-talking and un-respectful to the local culture.

Other than that, it's a beautiful place to live, near friendly people. If you're a surfer, boogieboarder, kayaker living contained by Hawaii is a no brainer. But the high-cost of living with clear being no more or even smaller number than you'd make within your current state of residence, you might question if it's worth the cost.

My boyfriend and I are planning to move to the Big Island or Honolulu conceivably at the end of this year - we're from California. We're for a moment older than you (I'm guessing you're contained by your 20s), and we want to get out of "corporate world" and hold a better quality of duration. Plus, my family is from in that, and it has other felt close to home to me.
I say move nearby and try it for a couple years - go for it! You'll never know unless you in fact do it. Certain things are more expensive (I could never figure out why milk is so expensive there), but you can work your process around it - there's always a road. While you're still in conservatory, try talking next to your career counselors around what kind of available job opportunities you might find next to a political sci degree. I love Hawaii, and if I be curious to live there when I be your age, I think I'd stir for it and give it a shot.
It is a nice place to drop by but I would not want to live there. My daughter go to the University of Hawaii for a year and said it was nice but you are stuck on an island and it is not cheap to obtain off.
