Oregon part of Pacific Crest Trail?
A friend and i are thinking of doing from the southern border of Oregon to just over bridge of the god and we would like to know if communication food drops are necessary surrounded by this section or will we find the local stores be satisfactory? Also is there long stretches short water and is the hose clean satisfactory to drink untreated?
Answers:
Mail drops are more reliable than the "stores" you will find at the mountain resorts near the PCT within OR. A lot depends on how far you want to hitch to a town with services - versus picking up standard delivery messages at places like Crater Lake, Elk Lake, Ollalie Lake, etc.
Water depends on the month, but at hand are plenty of streams that flow all summer surrounded by an average year. You would be crazy not to filter your water anywhere along the PCT. The big stretch beside no water runs from MacKenzie Pass to Big Lake. Stock up at MacKenzie Pass and traverse the Mount Washington Wilderness to Big Lake surrounded by one day.
