Answers:
Atascadero, CA
in good health I suggested Clairemount (near Pomona)
then also (Avalon on catalina lsland)
both are pretty relatively (expect for summer in Avalon)
consequently we also have san Dimas as another small city
Fillmoe, Santa Paula, Camarillo,

Rule of thumb: the further from downtown LA, the quieter/"safer". I like Burbank; it have a very suburban grain but is only 5 min away from the Hollywood scene. Burbank decree enforcement is like God's eyes; BPD will not tolerate anything get olden them, they're a little too strict sometimes... they're certain for that all across LA county. Good luck!
More silence than what? Well, if you told us which city you lived in, we would enjoy a frame of reference.
Since LA is the largest (in language of square miles) metro area contained by the country, it's pretty hard to find that small town discern. Most of the previous posts are cities that are smaller than LA, but still suburban and somewhat large. If you're looking for small town have a feeling, you'll want to check out places like Topanga, Silverado Canyon, and Modjeska Canyon. However, adjectives three of those areas were any damaged or threatened by wildfires this year.
If you want a more small town be aware of, you might have to go before inland or north. Start in Carpinteria, afterwards try Somis, Buelton, as well as some inland areas approaching Menifee.
Good luck.
Thousand Oaks, Simi valley
Silverado Canyon surrounded by Orange County. This town was hit concrete by the recent fires, but is still alive and kickin.
Small rual town feeling and with the sole purpose a few minutes from the cities of Orange or Irvine.
Kinda like living contained by the country.
