My wife and I are wanting to shift to New York this summer ??
Neither of us has ever be and I was wandering if anyone could recomend a nice hotel that would be close to important park, Rockerfeller center, and we would like to attend some broadway shows. We would also be interested contained by anyother cool places to see while there. So far we are only planning a week and I really don't want to drive while there if it is as crazy as what i've see in movies. Thanks for any and adjectives help, we are really looking forward to this trip !!

If money is not a issue you can try staying at The Sherry-Netherland Hotel, which located right on 5th Avenue and 59th Street. According to Yahoo Travel, rooms there are $375 a darkness and for that price you will be able to bring a view of Central Park. You also be in the neighbourhood Rockefeller Center and Times Square, either by bus or subway.
Speaking of subway and bus, forget the sports car, take the subway instead. NYC Transit operate both the subway and bus system and has great discounts for tourist who are staying surrounded by town for a week or more. Many attraction are near the subway, in attendance is no need to confrontation the traffic and the parking. And yes, like contained by the movies, traffic in New York is a nightmare.

I am struck by your remark about driving. While I agree beside you on not driving (driving here is a bit nuts) you surely don't expect to be able to way of walking to everything?
You can find many hotels close any of the places you want to go, they are not adjectives close enough to every single one to amble, all the time.
But the alternative is NOT driving! No one contained by New York drives, we don't own cars (okay, I do, but I live in Brooklyn, and even within my part of Brooklyn, various people don't own cars. I a moment ago need one because of where on earth I work.)
In New York, people filch mass transit - all the time! It's express, it's efficient, it's CHEAP! You will do much better getting a hotel you close to, and getting a good subway map! There are tons and tons of hotels surrounded by NYC.
BTW, I think you are underestimate just how big NYC is from your request for information. This is a really big city, and things are not right next to respectively other.
This doesn't mean you shouldn't ever meander. Walking is great in NYC! It's a great path to see the City. Just don't expect to be able to waddle absolutely everywhere. When it's too far, appropriate the subway (buses work too!)
Movies are movies ! New York is fantastic !

You could stay at the Hilton on Sixth Avenue and 54th St.that is centrally located, it is practical Rockefeller Center, and just a few blocks south of the park ... or you could stay at the Parker Meridien, which is on 57th Street right down the block from Carnegie Hall ... pretty hotel, more chic and attractive than the Hilton . if you are here at the right time, I suggest you get box lunches full for yourself, take army blankets or a substantial cotton spread of some sort to sit online on the grass in Central Park to see Shakespeare contained by The Park ... it is free; see the website for details when the time comes; *much* fun, Shakespeare under the stars . !!
Also, be sure to hit the glorious spots for museums if you like art: they are air-conditioned, NY can be terrifically hot, but an afternoon in The Metropolitan Museum (Fifth Avenue at 82nd St) can be merely the ticket, and the same go for The Frick Collection on 70th Street right off Fifth Avenue ... superb ! I don't know about The Frick which is fairly small, but The Met has a restaurant and is people-friendly, incredibly big, full of bookshops, print shops, and gifts to take support home to your friends
In addition, to own lunch at The Tavern on the Green in Central Park is charming and hugely nice . go !!
Then at hand is always theater, and concerts at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center..while you are here, you can bring an issue of New York Magazine to see what is doing ! If you are nervous roughly speaking getting tickets, check things online and order ahead.

Make sure you use the subway when you get here, it will appropriate you wherever you want to jump.
The Westin Times Square is nice - great location right in Times Square and in walking distance of theaters and great restaurants - and it is reasonable, by New York standards. If money is no raise objections - then the Plaza, St. Regis and Waldorf would be my picks.
You must see the Metropolitan Museum of Art - if I be to pick one touristy thing to do - it would be in that.
If money is not wanting than The Plaza, is by important park The Marriott is in the middle of the acting district. If you haven't bought tickets for broadway shows yet, when you are i the city you can attain tickets from the "Tickets booth" 45th street and broaway, they have same morning tickets at a discount rate. In rockefeller center in the morning you can be slice of the audience experience for the Today show in the plaza and on fridays nearby are free concerts on the plaza as well. In the summer walking through Central Park during the daytime time is nice, the Museum of Natural history 81st and Central Park west, lincoln center 66th street, Museuom of Modern art 54th street. All these are accessible by subway. You have to call on the observation deck of the Empire state building 33rd street. You can bring a subway to the battery and hop on a circle column boat and visit the statue of sovereignty and when you come back the south street seaport is not far from the mobile (walking distance), there are shops as all right as eateries and museums at the seaport.
