Big Sur when roads are open
You should include your starting point and how far you want to drive.

Try Monterey, Santa Cruz, Half Moon Bay, Napa, the city itself...
All of the museums are free the first Wednesday of every month. You should check out the Exploratorium, Steinhart Aquarium, MoMA (Museum of Modern Art). There are a ton of things to do, but this is a great tip to remember.

(In this order) Fisherman's Wharf & Pier 39 (maybe have a Sourdough bread bowl of the prominent clam chowder), then Lombard Street, afterwards maybe tramp the Golden Gate Bridge, see the Presidio or Golden Gate Park (I love the Japanese Tea Garden there), there's the SF Zoo, there's Ocean Beach, eat at the Cliffhouse or Beach Chalet, move about up to Twin Peaks and take within the view, step down into the Castro or head over to North Beach or probably SOMA. You've got loads of option.

Have a blast!
What bay are you conversation about? I hear the cockle picking trip within Morecambe bay is comparatively pleasant.
we went to san fran contained by august to visit my brother, & go on the duck tours a trip in an amphibious vehicle so you carry to see the bay from topography & water fantasic. http://www.bayquackers.com/
within is also a old fire engine that does tours of the sound.
Moss Beach - The James Fitzgerald Marine Reserve Tide Pools (Go at low tide) FREE, wear footwear for slippery rocks.

Princeton Harbor - Barbara's FishTrap or Half Moon Bay Brewery -Sit outside by the fire -even if it's foggy it's nice. Have a Tunnel Vision brew while you are in that.(If you're old ample to drink!)

Half Moon Bay - Visit Main Street or cut down your own Christmas tree at Santa's Tree farm on Hwy 92. rent a horse at Sea Horse dairy farm & ride on the Beach or the Coastal trail.

Dine at the Half Moon Bay Ritz Carlton for Sunday Brunch, where they shot the movie "An American Wedding" of American Pie genre.

Watch the sunset from the outdoor deck at the Moss Beach Distillery on your route home
There are so oodles amazing places in and around the Bay Area. If you don't own a car, and similar to to bicycle, then ride through Fort Mason, Chrissy Field, and the Presidio Park to the Golden Gate Bridge. Go on the right side of the bridge towards Marin, and the right side coming final, and stop a lot to pinch in the amazing view! An the other side, cross underneath the bridge to the Marin Headlands and catch some more view. If you're very fit, shift to the lighthouse.

If you have a sports car, drive up to Point Reyes National Seashore, which is a spectacular gem next to great hiking trails, wonderful (but cold) beaches, solitude, birds, and great food within the town of Pt. Reyes Station. My favorite way to go and get there is to drive across the GG bridge, appropriate the road to Mt. Tamalpais (Mt. Tam), and get over to Stinson Beach. From Stinson, freshly keep driving north, unless you want to stop in that or Bolinas for food.

Or you can drive out to Ocean Beach and then south on the Great Highway toward Santa Cruz and stop for view as often as you close to. Great places to stop and chill out along the way, resembling Moss Landing. Santa Cruz is around 2 hours south.

Welcome to the greatest place on earth! I moved here from upstate NY 21 years ago and hope I can stay forever.
how about a reastarant
Napa would be a great day trip from San Francisco. There are frequent great wineries and restaurants to enjoy. When the weather is cold, a mud tub and massage surrounded by Calistoga is a special treat.
Firstly, I recommend a good map of the area(s).
Highway 1 from Santa Cruz to Jenner. East through Anderson Valley and Sonoma. East departed Mt. Diablo.
You have only circumnavigated the Greater Bay Area and have see: Ocean, Rivers, Mountains, Redwoods, vineyards, amenable rolling hills next to old Oak trees and a extinct volcano.
Details beyond i.e. best done yourself. Play it by ear. Granted this trip will take adjectives day...
Have fun.
driving north on highway one is great, you stir up to point reyes and tomales bay. An hour and a partly away there a great seafood place right rotten the road and it sits over a small bay where on earth they get the oysters that they barbeque up here. Its a great drive
