What is Austin, Texas really resembling?

Honestly, I've only be there once, and it's the ONLY city I've ever fall in love next to at first sight.

I've be to the state capitol, Sixth Street, and the walking trail/park along the lakefront. But I've also read about things resembling SoCo, The Drag, Second St., Blanton Museum, Austin Museum of Art, Barton Springs and Zilker Park, Mt. Bonnell, Mt. McKinney, the ACL Music Festival, SXSW, UT sports, etc.

So, I'm 21, currently live in Kentucky, and will own my B.A. in May. Austin appeals to me because it have something Kentucky doesn't seem to submission, an environment where inhabitants are laid-back, friendly, however open-minded. I love live music and prefer hot weather (seriously), which ATX is prearranged for.

So, how is Austin in jargon of cost of living? Job market? Nightlife? Are the inhabitants really as friendly as they appear? Any other factors you want to chime within?

Thank you, and "Keep Austin Weird!"

What hill is everyone raving about? Texas is freaking flat and not that pretty.
I love Texas, but loathe Austin.

It has be known as Berkeley on the Colorado since the 70s. No appreciation. Worse? I have family connections living there, so I hold to visit.

Give me Houston any daytime. Keep Austin weird, but keep hold of College Station normal!
I would move to Austin within a hearbeat...I LOVE THAT CITY! Cost of living isn't too bad, only stay in the suburbs...nightlife is awesome and career market is average
I enjoy lived here 16 years, and it is a very nice place to be.

I moved here from Colorado and wasn't impressed at first. The 'liberal' and 'outdoorsy' aspects only just cannot compare to Boulder. However, after being here for a few years we lost any TRUE desire to leave, even when we have the chance to return to Boulder.

Cost of Living - I find it inexpensive, but I compare that to Denver, Chicago, Phoenix, and the West Coast (where I enjoy friends and family). Compared to Kentucky, it might be expensive. You can still buy a 4 bedroom house in a pious neighborhood for $250K (more the closer you are to downtown). Also, transportation is high because near isn't much of a mass transit system, unless you live within walking distance you can expect to stir through a tank of gas a week commuting.

Job Market - There are job here, but there is also plentifully of volatility in the bazaar. Do your job hunting up to that time you get here. Try to win here with a assignment already lined up, or at least possible with a couple of interviews. Another entry to consider is finding a job past you rent/buy a place to live, you don't want to end up living surrounded by George Town and working in Del Valle.

Nightlife - Pretty popular as a 'party town'. I was never too into it, but in that is no shortage of bars/clubs and special events.

Friendliness - Yes, and no. We have made various friends since we have lived here. But, I instinctively have lived places that are friendlier.

Something I communicate everyone is to get outdoors. The 'nightlife' is fun, but in attendance is lots of camping, boating, fishing, mountainbiking, swimming, rock climbing, etc to do contained by and around Austin. Austin has a great weather much of the year and you can do these things pretty much 12 months of the year.
I've been in attendance and I liked it.

Southern + Texan meet college crowd was how I feel about it. People be very cool.

Every time I've be there there's be loud employment offers on buildings which nearly says it adjectives. Plus the lookups I've done pretty much agree.

Heard cost of living is going up though. Traffic is messed up.

If I didn't have serious ties, I'd definately suggest about moving within.
I don't know where on earth git r done was driving, but I've be in Texas almost adjectives my life (except for 4 yrs within Louisiana) and I love it. Louisiana is definitely poorer, especially the academy system. They say the solely schools worse than La. ones are Mississippi ones. Austin is completely beautiful, especially the hill in west Austin. Barton Springs is the crude cold springs, the water is just about 65 degrees year round. You close to hot, it's hot here, this summer wasn't too bad, but it's typically over 100 for a few weeks in the summer. And obviously, ATX is the live music capital. I grew up within, love it, and live in Dallas immediately. I love Dallas too, lots to do here. Of course, git r done, there are poor parts of every city, so you must hold only be in those parts. Can't arbiter the whole state by a few slums that you happen to drive through.
from Kentucky?

You may think it's for a while expensive.

the natives are friendly.
I own lived in ATX since 1975 . It really sucks and I wouldn't come here.Just kid, it is a great place to live, there is other so much going on and I usually miss a lot. If you enjoy a job crinkly up would be a good piece. At one point we had the top educated population within the nation and a I would bet we are still in the top ten. One item for sure the traffic is really bad,but I drive surrounded by it everyday and it is just a part of the pack of life. You requirement to check out SOUTH Austin as it is on a different vibe than the rest of town. good luck.
I've lived contained by Austin for 18 years and all I can right to be heard about it is, it is a great place to live, and I plan on moving far far away soon. Lol.
I've lived here since 1981 and would never consider moving. It's a young at heart city with a great respect for disposition. If you enjoy the outdoors and the steam, you couldn't pick a better place. The Hill Country area is to the west of Austin. It is a fine, hilly terrain next to lots of open space.
Austin is a moment or two pricey as far as rents go.
Great nightlife - 6th Street is more touristy than local, but there's plenty to do downtown besides 6th Street.
I construe it's one of the nicest cities. People are so friendly.
My only reservation is responding to your question is that I don't want too lots more people coming because it's merely perfect!
Good luck making your judgment.
Just one thing you should conspicuously consider: Austin is full of new college old pupils who don't want to leave Austin. As a result, the entry-level commission market can be tough, and wages are lower than what you would probably be making contained by a different city. I'd recommend finding a job back you move and/or being okay beside settling for less than your post-graduation dream work. I moved here shortly after graduating several years ago and I completed up having to work a few sh*t job at first, and am still making less than I would hold had I not moved, but it be definitely worth it for me because I love the city so much.
i was a truck driver for a few yrs,go to and threw Texas many plentiful times.and from what i saw it's a very poor state.i never expected it to be so slummy.it be worse than Louisiana and that's pretty bad.the city of Houston and Dallas weren't to bleak but get out of town and it go down hill.i could not believe Texas be like that.but i see it with my own eyes.
