All depends on what part of the city or county you are going to be contained by. I personally love the Drury Inns because the rooms are nice, they are affordable and past the worst, you get a free blissful hour with snacks (you can bring non-alcoholic) and a full hot breakfast for free. There are Drury's in most areas of the city and county. Another great hotel is the Chase Park Plaza which even have a movie theater located in nearby. Or you could try the hotel at the Union Station which has fun shopping precinct attached.
It depends on the nouns you want a hotel. Downtown hotels are nice and safety is not a problem. Being alone make one feel unsafe but as long as you are not walking the streets at darkness and not going out and getting drunk and trying to find your hotel--lol--you will be fine.
Here is a list of hotels within the St. Louis area beside prices

The Adams Mark St. Louis Hotel is downtown and the prices start as low as $59. That's not a bad price for human being downtown.
I don't know if you are flying in but here are hotels right around the airport. There are even some cheaper ones around the airport

Just read through the reviews that people enjoy left and see if the hotel fits what you want.
Hope you find what you are looking for and hold a good time contained by St. Louis.!!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you're in the city, I'm not sure, but if you're within the county there are heaps. The county is much safer than the city in jargon of crime rate. Look it up on hotels.com and email them to me (a) perfectlyimperfect619(a)yahoo.co m & I will let you know what's obedient or not on your list!
The county is NOT necessarily safer than the city. I lived in the city for two years by myself contained by a neighborhood that some would consider "sketchy". I never felt similar to I was within any danger. I worked at a block in the county and we have something like 15 cars carry broken into in a year. I never feel safe contained by that parking lot. As far as hotels, check out the Adams Mark or the Millennium.
If your interested in the downtown nouns go www.explorestlouis.com There is a well-mannered list the best hotels that are in the neighbourhood the riverfront, some other ones too are in westport and clayton areas, don't stay north of lacledes landing nouns if downtown
I would recommend staying at a Drury Inn. They are all over St. Louis so you will be capable of find one near where on earth you need to be. They provide breakfast explicitly better than most. I've stayed in several surrounded by the St. L area and hold not found one that I didn't feel be not safe.
