Specifically in relation to sanctuary (ie crime rate), rent rates and social life, is Hoboken the best/worst/somewhere surrounded by the middle?
What areas are worth checking out in North Jersey for a youthful couple looking for close access to a PATH station in a somewhat taking place area?

I love Weehauken for the atmosphere plus it going on for 5 to 10 minutes form Manhattan so you have a lovely estimation of the NYC Skyline.
