Mammoth Lakes vs Big Bear California?what's better for winter mini-vacation?:?
I am trying to decide be to go for New Years next to my friends: Mammoth Lakes or Big Bear ? which place is snowy? which one is less expensive? Which one is nicer?

Skiing's better at Mammoth, there's more to do surrounded by Big Bear. Big Bear's also less expensive.
I close to Mammoth just because the skiing is better, within is more to do in the small town and the snow is always better. Both enjoy great runs but you can become bored at Big Bear if you are going for more than one day. But, I enjoy to admit, I if truth be told think Big Bear is smaller amount expensive overall. If you buy the multiple day elapse at Mammoth it gets cheaper than buying erect tickets by the day.
There is no comparison, Mammoth Lakes is clearly the better ski nouns. First off Mammoth is at over twice the elevation of Big Bear. The ski runs are longer, and better maintain. The scenery is spectacular. It can be a bit more expensive however.

If your group is driving up from the Los Angeles nouns buy gas in Mojave and again contained by Bishop. It's usually cheaper than in the few little towns contained by between. Quite often US-395 will enjoy "Chain Controls" in effect going up Sherman Grade north of Bishop so bring tire chains from home. They are really expensive if you buy them contained by Bishop.. Be aware that during ski season, especally on Fridays and Saturdays, the CHP lies in hang around between the towns of Big Pine and Bishop picking off speeders one after another. You usually won't see any CHP between Mojave and Big Pine, but survey the speed going through the town of Lone Pine. Inyo County Sheriff patrolls there.
Big Bear cheaper. But Mammoth passageway better! I have a log cabin in Big Bear & like mad of the times we don't have snow all the same or just for a while. Go to Mammoth much better! I spent New Years there a couple of years ago, have a blast!
