Gal from T.O Visiting L.A for the summer. Whats it close to?
Just came vertebrae from san marcos tlapazola--mexico and it was.. amazing. The citizens, culture, language, woo .. simply amazing. Anyway.. im going to L.A for the summer to look in some family( going alone) and wondering what L.A is like compared to toronto?

We seize lots of questions here asking what it's close to in LA. First of adjectives, I'll tell you what it's NOT close to: It's not like anything on TV. There aren’t running gun battle in the street. There aren’t shootouts every hours of daylight. Also, you don’t see celebrities only walking down the street. We don't go surfing during lunch hour. Some parts of LA are really nice, others are “ghetto”.
LA doesn’t own an effective public transportation similar to New York or San Francisco. One reason is that LA is larger surrounded by area than any of those, without a inner hub where everything is. Back contained by the 1960’s, we might have done it. But by the time local government got their deed together, it was much more difficult to engender a working public transit system. Also, unlike NY, we have earthquake, which makes it for a moment more difficult to built underground.
You NEED a car to live contained by Southern California. Deal with it.
The freeway traffic contained by LA is probably the worst thing nearly living here. The 405 is the worst. Know why they call it the 405? Because you budge 4 o' 5 miles per hour, and it takes 4 o' 5 hours to obtain where you're going. Freeway Traffic is impossible from 6-10 AM and bad from 3-7 PM. I don't know why they appointment it rush hour. It's more than an hour, and nobody's rushing, that's for sure.
The gangs surrounded by LA are the cause of various rumors. Keep in mind that in attendance are gangs surrounded by any large town, within every part of the country. In LA, the gang aren't really downtown, they are in South LA, East LA, and north Long Beach (an extension of the South LA gang, actually). And here's the deal: Mostly, they a short time ago kill respectively other.
Gas is expensive in California. Currently, it's just about $3.20, on average.
Yes, gas and real estate are impressively expensive in SoCal. However, this would be the best time to BUY a house because it's a buyer's souk right now. There are a great deal of foreclosures, and too many houses on the bazaar. So if you have change, it's a great time to buy. Unfortunately, most of us don't have a half-mil freshly lying around. Perhaps Paris Hilton (regular poster here)?
Yep, freeways are a drag, it's smoggy in summer, and expensive to live here. Yet, if it's so unpromising, why do we have thousands and thousands of ancestors moving here?

Here's my final point on the weather. In colder parts of the country, associates keep their cars contained by their garages all winter. Kids find snow toys for Christmas. Here, kids get BIKES, scooters, and skateboards. 10 AM Christmas morning, the streets are FULL of kids on their exotic bikes, scooters, etc. We have a play set from Costco surrounded by the back courtyard. I installed a light surrounded by the yard and our youngest plays on it (sometimes beside friends) at night during the “winter”, from the time homework and dinner are done until bed time. You can't do THAT surrounded by the snow.
The job open market is good here, by and large because there are SO masses people here that it creates its own living market. Then within are MANY industries, including tourism, entertainment, shipping, manufacturing, etc. It’s an incredible discount.
However, LA is not for everyone. Every time someone posts this question, you seize the LA haters who post their bile and venom. A lot of them don’t know what they are chitchat about. Maybe they have cousin Ernie visit once, and he be plumb disappointed when he got to Hollywood and found it weren’t pretty similar to on TV. Of course, he told all his kinfolk, and very soon they’re LA experts. Some of them are people who in actual fact visited once, and found out it wasn’t close to it was on TV, and it sure wasn’t Mayberry. And some actually lived here, and couldn’t promise with the expense, the traffic, or the fairly impersonal nature of living within a large metropolis. (You know, the nice who like to drop within on their neighbors unannounced, open the (unlocked) door, and agree to themselves in. Well, it’s not resembling that here, for better or worse. To those I would say “good luck” to you everywhere you are, but please don’t spew your venom surrounded by this forum.
In a nutshell, LA a HUGE metropolis. I live in one of the nicer suburbs, but the commute is no fun, habitually 1-2 hours each instrument each light of day. However, 340+ days of sunshine really helps. Yeah, it's expensive. Mrs. Obviousman and I both hold to work to pay the mortgage. But is it worth it? You bet!
If you resembling beaches, palm trees, and melt sunshine, you'll love L.A. Huge city with great diversity. Just be prepared to do alot of driving however.
