Looking for a place to live and work contained by or in the vicinity New york?

I'm looking for a nice place to live & jobs implicit New York, Manhattan would be nice! My fiancé and I are planning on moving there subsequent year; we're from London, England and have no concept where to start looking for job or a place to live.
We originally wanted to live surrounded by California but it’s quite expensive to live.

We’ll be staying for a year so don’t obligation anything long term. I’m qualified to work next to children and want work nannying for a family or work contained by a nursery and my partner wants something surrounded by retail.

We’re looking for reasonably priced one bedroom apartments.

….any planning? Whatever you have to speak I’ll be really grateful! :)

Oh that should be smooth they've all moved to California (I can't find a studio within San Francisco for less than 3k per month, and they adjectives have waiting lists).

God Bless You
I enjoy friends who live in Sunnyside, Queens, NYC. It's great. The neighborhood have tons of purpose built, mid-century apartments that have great space and layouts. It's single a few subway stops out of Manhattan. And, you can find very nice 1-bedroom apartments for underneath $1,500/mo.
As a native New Yorker, I would read out, don't think of renting an apartment within Manhattan. Rent there are extremely expensive, anywhere from $1000 to 5000 a month, sometimes more. Consider living outside Manhattan surrounded by parts of Queens (Astoria, Sunnyside, Long Island City, Rego Park, etc.), parts of Brooklyn (Park Slope, Brooklyn Heights, Prospect Park, Carrol Garden) and the west and north shore of Staten Island. Those area are smaller quantity expensive than Manhattan and you can commute into Manhattan on the subway.

You can also try the New Jersey, and the Hudson Valley suburbs, north of the city. There you can find places to live a lot cheaper than within Manhattan.

I hope this information was intensely helpful. Good luck.
If you think West California is expensive, you are surrounded by for a rude awakening. Move to Chicago, its like New York but cleaner, WAY cheaper, and better architecture.
live in the courtyard of empire state building
if you want to find out nearly average rental prices for 1-bedrooms in respectively of the city's major neighborhoods (since you said manhattan would be nice), you should check out the concrete estate group's manhattan rental market report at http://www.tregny.com/manhattan-apt-rent...

seriously, it's really adjectives.

as for being cheaper to live within NYC than in california, i don't know...i moved from LA within april and i'd say it's in fact cheaper to live there...but i guess it also depends on what you're looking for. dutiful luck!
New York Zoo.
In Manhattan your looking at $1200 rent minimum. In Brooklyn and Queens, you could get an equivelant place for $700-900. Or you could procure an illegal subterranean vault apartment for $500-600. Theres really something for every budget, despite what everyone says.

NYC is very expensive to live within and so are any towns and cities close by.
