Long Beach is primarily a "summer town". The streets tend to be seriously more quiet during the winter than the summer however, L.B is a vey nice community. The summer brings closely of people who rent houses and want to be close to the coast as well as NYC.
Long Beach be somewhat run down in the 70's BUT no longer. Nice family, good night-life and really nice beach and about a 45-60 minutes from Manhattan.
There be a lot of Superfund sites surrounded by that area. Maybe it's contaminated.
