Is manhattan, NY truly an island?

Manhattan is bound by the Hudson River to the West, the Harlem River to the North, the East River to the East, and Upper New York Bay to the south.
The name "manhattan" is derived from the ancient Lenape Indians who sold the come to rest to the Dutch when they arrived. The Lenape called it "manhata" which intended "island of hills"
The only time that Manhattan come close to not being an island be before the Harlem River be dredged at the north tip. Before the dredging to make it more navigable, the Harlem River within the north was exceedingly shallow and very transparent, yet it still surrounded Manhattan thus completing have water on adjectives four sides.

The only bit of NYC that is not an island is the Bronx, which is on the mainland. Brooklyn and Queens are the western lapse of Long Island. Manhattan and Staten Island are each an island, entire unto themselves. On the north Manhattan have the Harlem River, crossed by the Henry Hudson and Spuyten Duyvil Railroad Bridges, 225 St/Broadway Bridge, 207 St Bridge, High Bridge (not in use for at lowest 50 years), Alexander Hamilton Bridge, and Triborough Bridge. Then the East River, with the Randalls Island Bridge, 59 St Bridge, and masses more.
Yes
A good look at a map will indicate it is, indeed, an island. You can also run a Circle Line cruise that completely circumnavigates the island, which I did a few months ago, and I can assure you--it's an island.
IIRC, the tour guide explained that the East River is actually segment of the Atlantic Ocean, as it has tides, is moderately deep, etc. And I get a glimpse of where it flows into Long Island Sound.

Manhattan is surrounded by five bodies of hose. The Hudson River to the west, the East River to the east, the Harlem River and the Inwood Canal to the north and New York Harbor to the south.
