In Chicago, is West Pilsen perilous?
I am a 20 year old feminine, will be living with two other similarly aged females and we found a cheap apartment at 21st and California. Is this too risky an area to consider?
Answers:
While at hand are areas of Pilsen are are nice, up-and-coming neighborhoods, move to the area around 21st and California and you will be eat alive. Three 20 year old girls living together and who are latest to Chicago? Mmmmmm, fresh meat.
Try somewhere else, like Edgewater. There are places nearby with cheap rent and it's a nice neighborhood. near three people chipping surrounded by for rent, you can live like queens.
Well you are 4 blocks away from Cook County Prison. I would just pay attention and try not to be alone at night when walking home.
naaaahhh. you'll be fine.
21st and California is equal to that of Lincoln Park.

That, my dear, is not a biddable idea at adjectives.
That's a gang infested area. The with the sole purpose positive I can think of would be the E L, which have a stop at 21st and California.
Or the close proximity to Cook County Jail, which to me, is not a good item.
Unfortunately that apartment is cheap for a reason. 21st and California is a a bit unsafe area, especially at darkness, but to some extent during the day. A bit further east you draw from into a portion of Pilsen that's at least pretty safe during the daytime - more around 18th and Polk - but even there you own to watch yourself, especially at hours of darkness. It wouldn't be my first choice to wander around as a 20 year old-fashioned female.
DO NOT MOVE THERE!! That is so so so hood. If you want to live contained by a neighborhood with gang and drugs that's the place to be. The jail is right on 26th and California and that nouns is notoriously desperate. I have hear Pilsen is going to be developed a lot more and it's going to be the subsequent Lincoln Park so to speak but it's still not very nice, especially for a bunch of girls to be living within.
