What is the hippest place to live surrounded by Portland?

I am serioulsy thinking of taking the pludge. I want to get up and walk. I live in Orange County, CA and I'm in position for a change and Portland have always made me curious. I love downtown, loft-like living which is scace here Southern Cal unless you're a millionaire. Where are the urban singles living surrounded by Portand? Pls advise. THANKS!

TRUE oregonians hate californians.

own fun with that.

and downtown, loft-like living is scarce and expensive everywhere, not of late southern california.
I only moved from Las Vegas to the John's Landing area of Portland, Oregon. Seems resembling a very hip spot...
NW Portland is the most trendy with loft/industrial homes also outmoded Portland style houses. It's called the Pearl District it's expensive but not compared to so cal. The Lloyd District hard by Lloyd center in NE isn't relatively as industrial but is another trendy spot. It's a little cheaper because it's nouns isn't as safe but it's other improving. Anywhere contained by downtown or SW by Portland State U is a lot of antediluvian style houses and apartments. Portland has the friendliest downtown of anywhere I've be also the cleanest - by far.

There are many trendy artsy locations around the city. The Albina Arts District is another up and coming location. The Hawthorn District have a lot of yuppie/hippie types next to nice old homes. Your best bet is to jump there and look at the city and wish what your style really is. I'm sure there is something at hand for you and in your budget.
The chic hip area is the Pearl. Lots of lofts and condos but highly spendy. The new South Waterfront is even spendier. All clean condos. For funky hip my favorite is Hawthorne. It's like Haight Ashbury be. Some really nice old houses and flats. Lots of funky little boutiques, coffee houses and clubs. There are seriously of cool neighborhoods on the East side; Woodstock, Richmond, and Belmont to name a few. In North Portland there's Albina or Mississippi. Come check it out and find your niche. It's noticeably a lot different than Orange County. And don't verbs the natives don't really hold it against you for being from California, as long as you don't try to changeover things to "Californicate" Oregon. Try riding MAX instead of driving on the freeways.
Real Oregonians are poor? What an idiot.
Real Oregonians are poor and live contained by the far reaches of the burbs. In the city, it's overwhelmingly transplants - from adjectives over the country, not just California.

Compared to Orange County, anywhere surrounded by close-in is extremely hip.
