I enjoy been to the Columbus Zoo over 500 times. It is the nicest Zoo to spend a morning at in the USA. Go on a weekday if you can and spend the entire time there. There is so much to see and do. The staff is functional and will answer questions as economically. Jack Hanna has done a great brief in getting the funding to kind the Columbus Zoo the best in the world.
The Cleveland Zoo is nice for a city the size of Cleveland. It is tough to capture around and rather cramped by comparison. The animals do not look too satisfied at any zoo, but I bet they would move to the Columbus Zoo in a heartbeat if they have a choice.
So, if you have a rock-hard to getting to Columbus Zoo, please take the time to look in the Cleveland Zoo. But if you have a free daytime, get over to the Columbus Zoo and enjoy fun !

If you're debating which zoo to go to, my vote is for Columbus. I live almost equidistant from the zoos and hold been to both oodles times. The Cleveland Zoo is a nightmare to navigate if you have small children, especially if you hold to push a stroller, because it's built on so many hill. To make up for it though, I will say-so that Cleveland Metroparks has a outstandingly cool rainforest exhibit.
Another difference between the two zoos which might affect your decision is that Columbus' philosophy is to try to preserve the animals in their own innate habitat. This is no doubt polite for the animals, but does often engender them harder to see. Cleveland has a smaller quantity naturalistic setting, designed more for human observation.
