I took my granddaughter when she was eight (in 2006) and we stayed at the Miramar within Honolulu. I think it's a 2-star or conceivably a 3-star. Clean and comfortable.
It's about two blocks from the sand, has a fun cup elevator, a nice swimming pool, and good view from the rooms. The breakfast buffet was included surrounded by the price of the room (a travel agent can fix this up for you), and it was excellent!
It's subsequent door to the International Market Place, a fun place to wander around contained by. It's also near the breakwater built on Waikiki Beach, which breaks the side and provides a calm place to swim short being trounced to death by the the deep!
The Bus route is also nearby, and this go all over Honolulu as very well as around the island, a nice journey.
You can progress on Trip Advisor and look up hotels in Honolulu beside reviews and prices. You can also get accurate deals for packages (hotel, nouns & airport transportation) at Pleasant Holidays.
Have a great trip! It's a lovely state. Aloha!

We be very bullish with our stay at the Raddison Prince Kuhio 2 years ago it be a short walk to the seaside and the rooms were verbs and tidy. I think we get a special rate about $140 at the time but just now it has be much more ($250+)

Our friends stayed at a much cheaper hotel (a little run down, the windows be the old plastic slat shades totally out of danger but a little ugly) But be happy that they didn't spend much on the room and have more money to play with. If you don't plan on staying within your room much at all except to crash after a morning out then this might be a apposite choice. If it is good adequate for the locals it's good adequate for me! Plus it is on the quieter side of waikiki right next to the zoo!

Where ever you settle on remember a couple things. None of the hotels are as nice as they look...in pictures, most of them are a bit outdated and possibly a little musty smelling (tropical!) Elevators are SLOW, I read that closely before going and it be true, but never bothered us. We were never contained by a hurry!
Have fun!
