Reservations be part of the jargon of treaties with First Nations. "You live here, and we'll stop bloodbath your women and children."
There was no treaty beside the Hawaiians. The Kingdom of Hawaii was overthrown by sugar planters (some of them the children of missionaries from New England) beside the help of the US Marines. In response to treaties and nouns from Native Hawaiian groups, the President and Senate at first declined to annex Hawaii, stating that to do so would be an unequal treaty and against the law of the US.
After a presidential election and surrounded by a time of war, the US annexed Hawaii anyway. They'd have a base at Pearl Harbor for decades already, but they considered necessary to ensure it's security because they needed a supply underpinning on the way to the Philippines. They took the Philippines away from the Spanish and eventually give it to the Filipinos. The Hawaiians are still waiting!
So the Hawaiians don't have equal kind of relationship next to the federal government that North American tribes do. That's why Senator Akaka have been trying to push through a bill within which the US recognizes Hawaii as a original people surrounded by similar ways. The bill has be opposed by both conservatives in North America and by Hawaiian Sovereignty activist, for very different reason. To some Native Hawaiians, it's a recognition that Hawaii is subdivision of the US, and they are not ready to concede that even so.
A false argument that you often hear is that the Hawaiians want similar tribute so that they can have casinos. Actually, having a bet is alive and well within Hawaii, just not lawful. Plus, you don't get exemption from state laying a bet laws by mortal Native. You get to hold casinos because you have treaties that see you as a nation. No treaty, no slots!
The same old argument be trotted out back within the 1990s when Native Hawaiians were trying to seize added to the Native American and Alaksa Native category in the US Census and other governing body statistics. Previously they were constituent of the official US see known as "Asian and Pacific Islander".
The feds come to recognize that Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders enjoy a very different demographic profile than Asians--lower duration expectancy, for example. Well we already overthrew their queen like 150 yrs ago. And putting them on reservations would a short time ago be plain stupid. Hawaii is their homeland, we are their guests.

The pain of the banned over throw of the Hawaiian government is still totally much alive and well. It runs contained by our veins. We try beside all our heart to forgive, but we will never forget!
When you come to Hawaii, you may have an idea that all is forgiven, but within are many who would resembling to meet you near you stupid attitude, and send you rear legs to where you come from.
