JFK airport to New York City & backbone contained by soon?
HELP! I'm flying into JFK Int'l Airport on a Sunday in August. I arrive at 7am, after I have to ambush another flight at 9pm. I've never been to NY & I want to create the most of the time that I do have in attendance. I'd like to step to the Statue of Liberty (how far is it from JFK & whats the best way to take there-taxi or subway?) for sure and if time will allow it, Times Square, 5th Avenue, 9/11 Memorial, Empire State Bldg, Central Park...OK, so maybe I won't own enough time for adjectives that!! Any suggestions?

My friend, The Statue of Liberty is far from JFK, roughly going on for 40 miles. The best way to seize there, and around the city will be by subway. If you don't want to stand surrounded by the long line to go and get on board the ship to the Statue of Liberty, there is another track to see the Statue without setting foot on Liberty Island. You can nick the Staten Island Ferry to Staten Island and back and see the Statue of Liberty as transfer passes by. The best piece about the ship, its free.
As for the WTC site, well, within nothing much to see as it is still on the construction.
And as for the other palce, I would suggest Central Park, Times Square and 5th Avenue (but don't max out you credit card)

Forget the Statue of Liberty, I doubt you will have plenty time. It involves standing in looong lines and a take. You can probably fit everything else in if you don't shop too much within Times Square.
You can start at 65th & 5th, go down the steps into the park, put your foot through the park to 59th St. at 5th (end of the park), walk down 5th a bit later cut over to Broadway to Times Square, walk down a bit further to the Empire State Building. That's a fitting amount of walking already so, then hop within a taxi to the WTC site. Ask the driver and near are places you can see the Statue of Liberty from afar down there.
Getting to the Statue of Liberty from JFK may be a bit of a challenge - but it's not 40 miles, as Native New Yorker said. New York City is a short time ago not 40 miles across in any direction, so that estimate is purely too big.
If cost is not an issue, you can take a cab from the airport to lower Manhattan, at the southernmost point in Manhattan you will find South Ferry / Bowling Green park, where on earth you can buy tickets to visit the Statue of Liberty. I recommend doing this first, as untimely as possible, because there may be long lines.
After you stop by the statue, the boat will return you to lower Manhattan, and the 9/11 memorial, former site of World Trade Center, will be just a short wander to the north.
The other things you mention are in Midtown - the Empire State Building at 34th St. and 5th Ave., Times Square at the roundabout of Broadway and 7th Ave., between 42nd + 49th Sts., and Central Park, which is just huge.
If you own time after visiting the Statue of Liberty and the WTC, I would try to net a choice from the other attractions.
If you want to go to the top of the Empire State, that could be another long smudge, so you may not have time for that.
You might know how to visit the upper member of Times Square (take a cab to Broadway and 47th or 48th St.) Walk north to 59th St. and you'll be at the southern cease of Central Park - this will be where the horse-drawn carriage are. How far you go into the park at this point will be up to you - but you won't be capable of see all of Central Park contained by one day, it's only just too big.
If your flight out of NYC is at 9 pm, you'll want to leave for the airport around 5 or 6 pm, surrounded by order to allow adequate time to travel to the airport and check in - so plan your time properly.

Find someone who have "Google Earth" on their computer...
It has the skilfulness to give ancestors "virtual tours" and even print out the itineraries or travel plans, and it has masses other features as well...
If your computer have lots of memory available, you can download it for free...

You really don't own that much time so if you want to see the statue of liberty I would suggest you in recent times do that because it could take most of your time. Some easier things to see would be Times Square and the empie state building because you can tramp from one to another. You will probabaly want to get a cab because if you are not familiar next to the subway system it could be hard for you to navigate which stop to take off of.
